Description

The Impulse KLYM sits at the top of the Savage straight-pull lineup, and it earns that spot. Instead of a traditional lift-and-cycle bolt, the Impulse action pulls straight back and pushes straight forward, so you can run a follow-up shot without breaking your cheek weld or coming off the animal. The Hexlock bolt system locks the action tight, and the whole bolt assembly can be swapped from right to left hand, which makes this one of the few premium hunting rifles that treats lefties as more than an afterthought.

Carbon Fiber Where It Counts on the Impulse KLYM

Savage went to the right partners for the weight savings. The 22 inch barrel is a PROOF Research carbon fiber wrapped stainless steel tube, cut rifled with a 1:10 twist that stabilizes the full range of .308 Winchester bullet weights. The stock comes from FBT (Fine Ballistic Tools), blending carbon fiber in the forend and buttstock with an additive-manufactured center section, plus a comb that adjusts with a single button so you can get your eye behind the scope quickly. Add the aluminum receiver and the whole rifle comes in around 6.6 pounds, which your legs will appreciate on day three of an elk hunt.

Set Up for Glass and the Long Haul

There are no iron sights here, and there don't need to be. The receiver wears an integral one-piece 20 MOA rail, so mounting a scope with plenty of elevation for longer pokes is simple. The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 and ships with an Omni-Port brake that takes real bite out of recoil, and the adjustable AccuTrigger lets you dial the pull to your liking without a trip to a gunsmith. Feeding comes from a 4 round detachable box magazine, giving you 4+1 on tap.

Who the Impulse KLYM .308 Makes Sense For

This rifle is built for the hunter who counts ounces and covers ground: high country mule deer, backcountry elk, long walks after whitetail. The speed of the straight-pull action also makes it a strong pick anywhere a quick second shot matters. It costs more than a standard bolt gun, but the barrel, stock, and action here are genuinely a class above.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Impulse KLYM different from a standard bolt-action rifle?

The Impulse uses a straight-pull action, so the bolt cycles with a simple back-and-forward motion instead of the usual lift, pull, push, and lock. That means faster follow-up shots and less movement behind the scope. Savage's Hexlock system uses six bearings to lock the bolt into the barrel extension for a secure, consistent lockup.

Is the Savage Impulse KLYM good for left-handed hunters?

Yes, and better than most. The bolt handle and bolt assembly can be swapped from the right side to the left without a gunsmith, and the tang safety is naturally ambidextrous. It's one of the more genuinely lefty-friendly premium hunting rifles on the market.

Does the Impulse KLYM come with sights or a scope?

No sights or optic are included. The receiver has an integral one-piece 20 MOA Picatinny rail machined right in, so all you need is a set of rings and your scope of choice. The 20 MOA cant gives you extra elevation for stretching the .308 out at longer ranges.

Can I suppress the Impulse KLYM in .308?

The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24, which is the standard pattern for most .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. Just remove the included Omni-Port brake and thread on your can. The carbon fiber wrapped PROOF barrel also helps offset the added weight of a suppressor.
