This is the upgraded version of Savage's popular budget bolt gun, and the Pro treatment is more than cosmetic. You get a 20 inch heavy sporter barrel with spiral fluting, a 5/8×24 threaded muzzle for a suppressor or brake, and Gun Metal Bronze Cerakote on the barrel and receiver to shrug off rain, snow, and rough weather in the truck bed or on the mountain.
The biggest practical upgrade over the standard Axis is the one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail that comes installed from the factory, so mounting a scope takes minutes instead of a trip for bases and rings. Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you dial the pull down to your preference without a gunsmith, and the thread-in headspacing method Savage uses is a big part of why these rifles have a reputation for punching above their price on the target board. The updated bolt handle has a more ergonomic shape that is easier to run with cold hands or gloves on a late-season sit.
