The .25-06 Remington doesn't get the attention it deserves these days, and that's a shame. You'll still want to fine-tune zero with your hunting load, but you're starting on paper instead of chasing your first shots around the berm.
At 7.6 pounds scoped with a 42.5 inch overall length, it carries well on long hikes and balances nicely offhand. The black synthetic stock shrugs off rain and rough treatment, the detachable 4 round box magazine makes loading and unloading simple, and a recoil pad tames what little kick the .25-06 produces. The .25-06 is a flat-shooting, mild-recoiling cartridge that covers a lot of ground. With lighter bullets it makes a great varmint and coyote round, and with 115 to 120 grain loads it's a proven performer on deer and antelope, especially at longer ranges in open country.
