Savage gave this generation of the Axis a real refresh. The hardwood stock has updated ergonomics with laser-cut stippling on the grip and forend, so it stays planted in your hands even with wet gloves in November. The reworked bolt handle is easier to run quickly, and ambidextrous palm swells make it comfortable from either side. Underneath it all is the user-adjustable AccuTrigger, which lets you dial the pull anywhere from about 2.5 to 6 pounds with no gunsmith visit. Thread-in headspacing and a button-rifled 22-inch carbon steel barrel with a 1:10 twist round out the accuracy story, and that twist rate stabilizes the full range of .30-06 bullet weights from light varmint loads up to heavy 180 grain game bullets.
