You will give up some velocity compared to a traditional 22 or 24 inch barrel, roughly in the neighborhood of 25 to 40 fps per inch depending on the load. For typical hunting distances that difference is a non-issue, and the shorter barrel makes the rifle much easier to carry through brush, maneuver in a blind, or run with a suppressor attached.
