Smith & Wesson built the Shield to disappear under a t-shirt, which means there isn't much grip real estate to work with once you factor in a flush 7-round magazine or a bare frame during dry fire. Samson designed this Compact Magwell to fix that without turning your carry gun into something bulkier. It's a single machined piece that attaches to the base of the grip and gives you back the finger contact and control a subcompact frame usually leaves on the table.
This magwell is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and finished with a MIL-A-8625 Type III Class 2 hardcoat anodized coating in matte black, so it holds up well to holster wear and everyday carry. At 2.2 inches long, 0.97 inches wide, and 0.71 inches tall, it barely changes the Shield's overall footprint, and at a half ounce you're not adding noticeable weight to your setup. It's made in the USA and covers the M&P Shield 9mm, Shield M2.0 9mm, and the .40 S&W Shield.
The beveled opening funnels the magazine into the well instead of making you hunt for the catch, and the extended finger groove lets you keep a full grip instead of curling your pinky under the frame. Spent mags drop free cleanly too, so your hand isn't fighting the gun during a reload. Keep in mind this piece is built around factory 8-round 9mm magazines with a standard baseplate or the Samson 9mm +1 extension, and factory 7-round .40 S&W magazines. It won't seat a 7-round 9mm or a 6-round .40 magazine, and grip-style magazine extensions from other brands don't play well with the internal profile since they're shaped to double as both a grip and mag extension.
Installation is straightforward with the included hardware, no drilling, filing, or gunsmithing needed to get it seated. If you want to build out a fuller reload package down the road, it pairs with Samson's own Carry Contour magazine extension or their Pocket Comp for even more control on target.
