Prong-style flash hiders have one well-known annoyance: that tuning fork ping every time you send a round downrange. Rugged solved it with variable fluted prongs on the R3 Flash Mitigation System, so you get serious flash reduction without the ring and without fussing over indexing during install. This version is cut with 9/16×24 left-hand threads, which makes it a natural fit for certain AK-pattern .30 caliber builds running left-hand muzzle threads.
The R3 pulls double duty. Beyond taming muzzle flash, it serves as the muzzle-end half of Rugged's Dual Taper Locking System, giving you a fast, secure attachment point for the Radiant762, Surge 7.62, Razor 7.62 and Micro30. The taper design is completely toothless and snag-free, so there are no ratchet teeth to chew up or catch on gear, and the smooth exterior keeps the profile clean whether you're running a can or shooting bare. Lockup stays tight and repeatable, which matters if you care about your zero staying put when the suppressor comes on and off.
At 2.13 inches long and roughly 2.5 ounces, the R3 adds very little to the end of your barrel. Rugged trimmed the design down considerably compared to competing prong-style devices, so you keep your rifle handy and balanced instead of hanging extra steel off the muzzle. The black finish is understated and blends right in with most builds.
If you already own one of Rugged's 7.62 cans, this is the piece that ties the whole setup together on a left-hand threaded host. And even on days when the suppressor stays home, you're still getting genuine flash mitigation that helps preserve your vision in low light. It's a smart, no-nonsense muzzle device that does two jobs well, which is more than most can claim.
This R3 uses Rugged's Dual Taper Locking System and mounts the Radiant762, Surge 7.62, Razor 7.62 and Micro30 directly. It also works with silencers running a Rugged R.U.M. mount. If your can uses a different manufacturer's mounting system, it won't interface with the R3.
No, and that's one of its best features. The variable fluted prong design means there's no specific orientation required, so you can torque it down without shims or crush washers to clock a specific prong position. That makes installation quicker and simpler than most traditional three-prong designs.
It doesn't. The variable fluted prongs are specifically engineered to eliminate the tuning fork ring that plagues most open-tine flash hiders. You get the flash reduction benefits of a prong design without the annoying resonance after each shot.
The 9/16×24 LH pattern shows up on certain AK-pattern rifles chambered in .30 caliber cartridges. Before ordering, verify your barrel's actual thread pitch and direction, since AK variants use several different patterns. Rugged offers the R3 in a wide range of thread pitches if this one doesn't match your host.
