Ten plus one rounds in a pistol that weighs 10.6 ounces and hides in a pocket. That's the whole pitch with the LCP MAX, and it's a good one. Ruger took the deep-concealment footprint that made the original LCP a staple behind gun counters everywhere and reworked it around a double-stack magazine, so you're carrying nearly double the capacity of the old 6+1 models without a meaningful jump in size. At 5.17 inches long and 0.75 inches across the slide, this thing disappears whether you carry it in a pocket rig, on the belt, or as a backup.
This model ships with a tritium front sight wearing a white outline, which is a genuinely useful upgrade on a defensive pistol this size. In daylight the white ring draws your eye fast, and in the dark the tritium vial glows on its own with no batteries and no charging required. The rear sight is drift adjustable with a generous U-notch for quick alignment, plus a squared front face so you can rack the slide one-handed off a belt or boot heel if you ever need to.
Little .380s have a reputation for being snappy and hard to run, and Ruger clearly put thought into fixing that here. The patented barrel cam geometry delays unlocking and slows the slide down, which takes real bite out of the recoil. The Secure Action fire control pairs an internal hammer with a bladed trigger for a short, smooth pull and a crisp reset. Raised cocking ears and functional slide serrations make the slide easy to manipulate even with a 0.75 inch wide slide, and the included finger grip extension floorplate gets most hands a full three-finger hold.
This version has no manual thumb safety for a clean, snag-free draw, and the magazine release is reversible for lefties. Ruger includes a soft pocket holster and a magazine loader in the box, and the MAX fits most existing LCP II holsters, so upgrading from an older LCP is painless. For a lightweight everyday carry gun with night sights from the factory, this one checks a lot of boxes.
This model, part number 13765, does not have a manual thumb safety. It relies on Ruger's Secure Action system, which combines a protected internal hammer with a bladed safety trigger, so the gun only fires with a deliberate trigger press. Ruger does make a separate LCP MAX variant with a thumb safety if you prefer one.
In most cases, yes. The LCP MAX shares nearly the same footprint as the LCP II and fits most existing LCP II holsters, which makes upgrading easy. It also ships with a soft pocket holster from the factory, so you can carry it the day you bring it home.
The front sight is tritium with a white outline, so it glows in the dark without batteries and stands out in daylight. The rear is a plain black drift-adjustable sight with a wide U-notch, which keeps your eye focused on the front dot where it belongs. Aftermarket full tritium sets are available if you want glowing rear dots too.
Softer than you'd expect for a 10.6 ounce gun. Ruger's barrel cam geometry delays unlocking and slows the slide, which noticeably tames felt recoil compared to other pocket .380s. The included finger grip extension floorplate also helps, since getting all three fingers on the grip gives you much better control.
