The 6.5 PRC has earned its spot as one of the go-to cartridges for hunters who want flat trajectories and serious downrange energy without stepping up to a full magnum rifle, and the Ruger American Gen II gives you a smart way to run it. This model 46916 wears a 20 inch cold hammer-forged barrel with deep spiral fluting, a 1:8 twist that stabilizes the heavy, high-BC bullets the PRC was built around, and a 5/8×24 threaded muzzle wearing a factory radial port brake. That brake matters on a rifle this light. At 6.4 pounds bare, recoil from the 6.5 PRC gets tamed to a level that makes range sessions and follow-up shots a lot more pleasant.
Ruger did not just slap a new stock on the original American. The barreled action is coated in Gun Metal Gray Cerakote for real weather resistance, the one-piece bolt is CNC machined from stainless steel with a three-lug, 70 degree throw that clears low-mounted scopes, and the oversized bolt handle is threaded 5/16-24 if you ever want to swap it. The three-position tang safety lets you cycle the bolt with the safety engaged, which is a feature a lot of hunters ask for. Underneath it all, the patented Power Bedding block locates the receiver and free-floats the barrel, and the Ruger Marksman trigger adjusts from 3 to 5 pounds for a clean, crisp break.
The gray splatter synthetic stock has a grippy texture that holds on with wet hands or gloves without chewing them up. Pull the included spacer and the length of pull drops from 13.75 inches down to 12, so it works for smaller-framed hunters or heavy winter layers. The soft rubber recoil pad collapses progressively to soak up what the brake does not, and the low comb lines your eye up nicely behind a scope mounted on the factory-installed one-piece Picatinny base. Add glass, sight it in, and this rig is ready for elk country.
No sights or scope are included, but Ruger installs a one-piece Picatinny scope base at the factory. That means you just need rings and your optic of choice, and the low comb on the Gen II stock lines your eye up well behind magnified glass.
It is milder than you would expect. The factory radial port muzzle brake takes a big bite out of the recoil impulse, and the soft rubber pad on the Gen II stock is designed to collapse progressively as it absorbs the hit. If you want it even softer, Ruger sells an accessory stock weight kit that adds up to 1.6 pounds to the butt.
Yes. The muzzle is threaded 5/8"-24, which is the standard pattern for most 30 caliber and 6.5mm suppressors and muzzle devices. Just spin off the factory brake and attach your can or a thread protector.
