Description

Ruger built this one to mark a milestone, 250 years of American liberty, and they did it on the platform that earned its keep in deer camps and ranch trucks across the country. The American Rifle Gen II 250th Anniversary edition wears a Liberty Blue splatter stock with red and white flecks throughout, a Gun Metal Gray Cerakote barreled action, and a receiver engraved with "Made in the 250th Year of American Liberty." It looks the part of a commemorative piece, but make no mistake, this is a full working Gen II underneath, not a safe queen.

What the American Gen II Brings to the Field

The 20 inch cold hammer-forged barrel is spiral fluted to trim weight up front and comes threaded 5/8×24 with a radial port muzzle brake already installed, so felt recoil from the .308 stays mild. A one-piece Picatinny base is mounted from the factory, meaning you can drop a scope on and head to the range the same day. The Ruger Marksman trigger adjusts from roughly 3 to 5 pounds, the one-piece stainless bolt runs smooth with a 70 degree throw, and the three-position tang safety lets you cycle the action with the safety on. Feeding comes from a 3 round AI-style magazine, and the pattern gives you plenty of aftermarket options if you want more capacity later.

A Stock That Fits More Than One Shooter

The Gen II stock is one of the biggest upgrades over the original American. Pull the included spacer and the length of pull adjusts from 13.75 inches down to 12, which is handy if the rifle gets shared with a smaller framed hunter or a new shooter in the family. The installed low comb lines your eye up nicely behind a magnified optic, the splatter texture grips well with wet gloves, and the soft rubber recoil pad shoulders easily and soaks up what the brake doesn't.

Why This 250th Anniversary Ruger Is Worth Grabbing

At 6.4 pounds bare, it carries easily on long walks, and .308 Win handles everything from whitetail to elk with the right load. Limited edition runs like this tend to disappear once the anniversary year passes, so if the red, white, and blue treatment speaks to you, don't sit on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Ruger American Gen II 250th Anniversary edition different from the standard Gen II?

Mechanically it is the same proven Gen II rifle, so you get the fluted barrel, adjustable Marksman trigger, and three-position tang safety. What sets it apart is the Liberty Blue splatter stock with red and white flecks and a receiver engraved with "Made in the 250th Year of American Liberty." It is a limited edition run, which gives it some collectible appeal on top of being a solid field rifle.

Does this rifle come with sights or a scope?

There are no iron sights and no scope in the box, but Ruger installs a one-piece Picatinny base at the factory. That means you just need rings and an optic to be range ready. The installed low comb on the stock is shaped to line your eye up behind a magnified scope, so it pairs well with most hunting optics.

Will the Ruger American Gen II accept higher capacity magazines?

Yes. It ships with a 3-round AI-style magazine, and the AICS pattern is one of the most common in the bolt gun world. Aftermarket 5 and 10 round mags from makers like Magpul in short action .308 pattern typically run fine, which is a nice upgrade path if you shoot matches or spend a lot of time at the range.

Is the 20 inch barrel enough for hunting with .308 Win?

Absolutely. A 20 inch barrel gives up very little velocity in .308 and makes the rifle noticeably handier in a blind, on a ranch truck rack, or hiking timber. The 1:10 twist stabilizes the popular 150 to 180 grain hunting bullets well, and the factory muzzle brake keeps recoil comfortable for follow-up shots.
