Some guns are built to win matches. This one is built to just be there when you need it. The Rossi Tuffy Survival Stow & Go Kit is a single shot, break action gun chambered to handle both 3 inch .410 bore shotshells and .45 Colt cartridges out of the same 16 inch barrel. That combo covers a lot of ground: birdshot for small game and pests, buckshot or slugs when you want more punch, and full power .45 Colt when the job calls for a real centerfire cartridge. One simple gun, a bunch of different answers.
The whole point of this kit is portability. The Tuffy takes down quickly, and both halves slip into the included Stow & Go carry bag, which fits easily inside a backpack, behind a truck seat, or in a boat locker. At roughly 51 ounces unloaded and just under 31 inches assembled, you barely notice it until you need it. The black polymer thumbhole stock has a built-in shell holder so spare rounds stay with the gun, which is a small touch that makes a big difference in the field.
Rossi kept this one refreshingly uncomplicated. The break open action is about as foolproof as firearms get, and the crossbolt safety is easy to run with either hand. The alloy steel barrel wears a black oxide finish that shrugs off weather and rough handling, and the rifled bore with a 1:24 twist stabilizes .45 Colt bullets well. Up top you get a steel front sight paired with a Picatinny rail with a rear sight groove, so you can shoot it as-is or mount a red dot in minutes.
This is the gun people keep at the hunting camp, stash in the side-by-side, or hand to a new shooter learning the ropes. It's light, it's forgiving, and there's nothing on it to fuss over. If you've been looking for a do-a-little-of-everything companion gun that stores in its own bag and doesn't cost a fortune to feed with .410 shells, the Tuffy Survival Stow & Go Kit is a smart pick.
Yes, that's the big draw of this gun. The chamber accepts 3 inch and 2.5 inch .410 bore shotshells as well as .45 Colt cartridges, all through the same 16 inch barrel. That flexibility lets you run birdshot for small game, buckshot or slugs for heavier work, and .45 Colt when you want centerfire power.
The Tuffy breaks down into two halves without tools, and both pieces fit inside the included Stow & Go carry bag. The whole package stashes easily in a backpack, truck cab, or boat compartment. Fully assembled it measures about 30.9 inches and weighs just over 3 pounds.
You can. The receiver wears a Picatinny rail with a rear sight groove machined into it, so it works with the steel front sight out of the box or accepts a compact red dot if you prefer. For a short-range utility gun like this, a small dot sight is a popular and quick upgrade.
Think of it as a general purpose camp and trail gun. It handles small game hunting, pest control, and packable backup duty, and the .45 Colt option gives it enough thump for larger critters at modest distances. The simple break action and light weight also make it a great trainer for newer folks learning gun handling basics.
