There's something to be said for an AR that skips the gimmicks and nails the fundamentals. The Rock River Arms LAR-15 CAR A4 is built around a forged A4 upper and forged RRA lower, a 16 inch chrome moly barrel with a 1:9 twist, and an A2 flash hider on standard 1/2×28 threads. The biggest upgrade over a typical entry-level AR is the trigger. Instead of the gritty single-stage most factory carbines ship with, the CAR A4 comes with RRA's two-stage trigger. You get a light take-up, a clean wall, and a crisp break that makes it much easier to shoot to the rifle's potential. Up front you'll find a fixed A2 front sight base, and the flat top upper gives you a clean stretch of Picatinny rail for a red dot, magnified optic, or a rear iron to pair with the front post. It ships with a 30-round magazine and an RRA carrying case, so you're set for the range on day one. Add an optic if you want one, load up, and go shoot.
No, it ships with an A2 front sight base only. The flat top A4 upper has a Picatinny rail, so you can add a flip-up rear sight to use with the front post, or mount a red dot or scope instead. Most buyers end up running an optic, which is why RRA leaves the rear end of the rail open for you.
A 1:9 twist is a sweet spot for the most common and affordable ammo out there. It stabilizes 55 and 62 grain loads very well, and most rifles with this twist will also handle bullets up to around 69 grains. If you plan to shoot heavy 75 to 77 grain match loads regularly, a faster twist is usually preferred, but for range and general use ammo this barrel is right at home.
