Rio Top Target shotshells bring ballistic superiority and box-to-box consistency to the range. Whether you're running trap, skeet, or sporting clays courses, these 20 gauge shells are engineered for serious performance without excessive recoil.
These loads combine proprietary clean-burning single-based powders with perfectly matched wads and primers. That combination delivers excellent velocities and moderate pressures that translate into smooth recoil and tight patterns shot after shot. You'll notice the difference in how these shells perform across different guns, which is exactly what you want when you're trying to build consistency in your shooting.
The 7/8 ounce charge of #7.5 shot strikes the right balance for competitive clay shooting. You get enough pellet density for solid breaks without sacrificing comfort during extended practice sessions. At 1250 fps, the velocity sits right in that sweet spot where you maintain good energy downrange while keeping felt recoil reasonable. The #7.5 shot size is also versatile enough to work well for small upland birds if you want to use these beyond the clay course.
Rio has nearly 150 years of ammunition manufacturing heritage, and you can see that experience reflected in the Top Target line. The shells come packaged in convenient 25-round boxes, making it easy to grab a box for practice or stock up for competition season. Lead shot construction provides the density and performance you need to break clays consistently. If you're looking for reliable, no-nonsense target ammunition that performs the same way every time, these deliver.
Both sizes work well for clay shooting, but #7.5 offers slightly larger pellets with a bit more individual energy, while #8 provides more pellets for denser patterns. Your choice depends on your gun's performance and personal preference. Rio Top Target comes in both sizes, so you can test what works best in your setup.
Yes, these 2.75-inch shells will function in any 20 gauge shotgun that accepts 2.75-inch shells. Always check your specific gun's documentation to confirm shell length compatibility. The moderate recoil makes them comfortable to shoot in most 20 gauge platforms, from newer guns to older models.
Rio Top Target delivers solid, consistent performance at a competitive price point. The clean-burning powder and matched wad construction provide reliable velocity and patterns that match or exceed many premium loads. Most shooters find the quality-to-value ratio excellent, especially when buying by the case for regular practice.
While designed for target shooting, the #7.5 shot can work on upland birds like doves and quail at reasonable distances. Lead shot provides good density for clean, humane hits on small game. However, they're optimized for clay breaking rather than hunting performance, so dedicated hunting loads may be a better choice if that's your primary use.
