Most defensive pump guns come with a fixed cylinder bore and call it a day. The Retay GPS Tactical takes a different route. Its 18.5 inch barrel is threaded for Retay's MaraPro choke system, and Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes come in the box. That means the same shotgun that sits by the nightstand can tighten up its pattern for clays, small game, or even a turkey setup without swapping barrels. The chrome lined, deep bore drilled barrel shrugs off moisture and cleans up fast, which matters on a gun that might spend months in a truck or safe between range trips.
GPS stands for Geometric Pump System, and it is the heart of this gun. Retay used computer modeled receiver geometry to shorten the pump stroke, so cycling feels quick and loading is easier than you would expect at this price point. The forend glides on Retay's floating forend design with a double guided pump, and the trigger group rides on a two pin removable setup with a generously sized guard, handy if you shoot with gloves. Feeding is handled by a tube magazine that holds five 2 3/4 inch shells or four 3 inch magnums, plus one in the chamber.
At 6.6 pounds with an overall length under 37 inches, the GPS Tactical is genuinely light and quick to the shoulder. The matte anodized aluminum receiver keeps weight down and includes an integrated dovetail for mounting an optic, while the black synthetic stock has a built in sling swivel mount for hauling it into the field. A raised high visibility front blade gets your eye on target fast in low light.
This is a smart pick for anyone who wants one 12 gauge that can wear several hats: home defense gun, camp gun, truck gun, and occasional bird or clays gun. The choke versatility is the real separator here, and Retay backs the GPS with a factory warranty for added peace of mind.
It holds 5+1 with 2 3/4 inch shells and 4+1 with 3 inch magnums. The tube magazine loads easily thanks to the receiver geometry Retay designed around the GPS action. That is solid capacity for a compact 18.5 inch barreled pump gun.
Yes, and that is one of its best features. The barrel is threaded for Retay's MaraPro choke system, and Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes are included in the box. Most short barreled tactical pumps are fixed cylinder bore, so this gives you a lot more flexibility for clays, small game, or tighter defensive patterns.
The one piece aluminum receiver includes an integrated dovetail for optics mounting, and the barrel is drilled and tapped as well. Out of the box it runs a raised high visibility front blade sight, which works well for fast target acquisition at defensive distances.
It weighs right around 6.6 pounds with an overall length of 36.7 inches, so it swings and points quickly. The light weight makes it easy to maneuver indoors or carry all day. Keep in mind that lighter 12 gauges pass more recoil to the shooter with heavy magnum loads, so standard 2 3/4 inch shells are the sweet spot for practice.
