At the heart of it is Retay's Inertia Plus system, which adds a patented rollover torsion spring to the rotating bolt head. That spring forces the bolt into battery and keeps it there, so bumping the gun against the blind or dropping the butt in the boat won't leave you with a dead trigger when birds cup into the decoys. It also closes quietly, which anyone who has tried to sneak a shell in with mallards overhead will appreciate.
The 28" deep bore drilled barrel comes with a factory lengthened forcing cone for better patterns and a bit less punch on your end, and the TruGlo fiber optic bead is quick to pick up in low light. At 7 pounds 4 ounces with a 50" overall length, the balance lands right where a duck gun should, enough weight up front to keep your swing moving through crossing birds without feeling like a boat anchor on a long walk in. The AIRY recoil pad does real work taming heavy magnum loads, and the 3.5" chamber handles everything from light target shells to full house goose loads.
The ACE Standard stock wears full Realtree Max-7 camo and comes with a shim kit so you can adjust drop and cast to fit your build, with a 14.5" length of pull out of the box. The oversized safety is reversible for lefties, the trigger group removes with a push button for easy cleaning after a muddy hunt, and the receiver comes drilled and tapped if you ever want to run an optic for turkey season. Retay backs it with a limited lifetime warranty, which says plenty about how they feel about their build quality.
Inertia guns as a category like a little resistance to run their best, and the ACE-R is happiest with standard field loads on up. Most owners find it runs 1 1/8 oz target loads fine once broken in, and it will digest everything up to 3.5" magnums without complaint. If you plan on shooting mostly featherweight promo shells, give it a few boxes of stouter ammo first.
Traditional inertia bolts can get jarred out of battery if the gun takes a knock, which means a click instead of a bang at the worst possible time. Retay adds a rollover torsion spring that actively rotates the bolt head into battery and holds it there. It also makes for quieter closing and less bolt rattle when you're trying to stay stealthy.
Yes. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so adding a rail and a red dot for turkey season is a simple job. The included fiber optic bead handles wingshooting duty just fine the rest of the year.
It does. Retay ships this model with a set of screw-in chokes covering constrictions from Cylinder through Full, plus an extended long range waterfowl tube. That gives you the flexibility to pattern for decoying ducks, passing geese, or upland birds without buying anything extra.
