The Retay ACE-R 28 Gauge in Realtree Legacy camo is one of those guns that just disappears in your hands. It tips the scale right around 5 pounds 5 ounces, so a full day chasing quail, doves, or grouse never turns into a shoulder-and-arm workout. Under the camo it runs Retay's Inertia Plus rotating bolt system, a clean, simple design with no gas ports to foul up, which means fewer parts to clean and dependable cycling trip after trip. The 26-inch barrel is deep-bore drilled with a factory-lengthened forcing cone, and that combination throws even, consistent patterns with the wide range of 28 gauge loads you'd actually hunt with.
The hump-backed receiver profile is the signature of the R model. It's a nod to the classic waterfowl guns of old, and it gives you a longer, more natural sighting plane right down to the single fiber optic front bead. Topside you get oversized, reversible controls, so lefties can flip the safety in seconds without tools. The push-button trigger group drops out for cleaning just as easily. With a 3-inch chamber, you've got room to step up to heavier loads when the situation calls for it.
Comfort was clearly on the design table here. The AIRY recoil pad borrows its air-pocket shape from running shoe soles, and Retay claims up to a 30 percent cut in felt recoil. On a 28 gauge that was already mild, that makes for a gun you can run boxes through without a second thought. The included shim kit lets you dial in cast and drop for a personal fit, and the length of pull sits at 14.5 inches. The gun also accepts Benelli Crio Plus pattern chokes, so finding extra tubes down the road is never a headache.
From timber edges to the clays course, this little 28 is light, quick to the shoulder, and built to keep up season after season, all backed by Retay's limited lifetime warranty.
It runs on Retay's Inertia Plus system with a rotating bolt. That means no gas ports to clog and far fewer parts to clean, which translates to simple maintenance and reliable cycling in the field. Inertia guns like this also tend to run cleaner over a long day of shooting.
The 28 gauge ACE-R holds 2+1, meaning two in the magazine tube and one in the chamber. It has a 3-inch chamber, so you can load up to heavier 28 gauge loads when you need them. Because it accepts Benelli-pattern components, aftermarket magazine options exist if you want to tinker.
Yes, it ships with a full set of choke tubes plus a choke wrench to swap them. The chokes follow the Benelli Crio Plus pattern, so replacements and specialty tubes are easy to find. You also get a shim kit to fine-tune stock fit right out of the box.
This 26-inch 28 gauge comes in right around 5 pounds 5 ounces, making it a genuinely light carry gun. That low weight shines on long upland walks where every ounce matters. The AIRY recoil pad keeps the lighter frame comfortable to shoot despite the reduced mass.
