Speaking of recoil, the Airy Pad is one of the better factory pads out there, with a cushioned design Retay says cuts felt recoil by up to 30 percent. Pair that with the included shim kit for adjusting cast and drop, and you can get this gun fitted to your build instead of fighting a stock that does not point where you look.
The oversized safety button is reversible for left-handed use, the trigger group pops out at the push of a button for easy cleaning, and the steel receiver comes drilled and tapped if you want to add an optic for turkey season. The ACE also accepts Benelli Crio Plus pattern chokes, so aftermarket tube options are wide open beyond the MaraPro set that ships in the box. At around 7.25 pounds it carries comfortably on long walks, and the matte black synthetic furniture shrugs off weather and briars. Retay backs it with a limited lifetime warranty, which says a lot about how much faith they have in this action.
Yes, that is one of the strong points of the Inertia Plus system. The ACE is designed to run everything from light 2.75 inch target loads up to heavy 3.5 inch magnums without adjustment. Like most inertia guns, a short break-in period with mid-power loads helps everything settle in, but owners consistently report smooth cycling across a wide range of shells.
It ships with a set of MaraPro flush-mount chokes covering Cylinder through Full. The ACE series also accepts Benelli Crio Plus pattern chokes, so you have plenty of aftermarket options from makers like Briley, Carlson's, and Trulock. Just make sure any tube you buy is listed for Retay or Crio Plus threading.
You can. The steel receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so adding a rail or red dot mount for turkey hunting or slug work is straightforward. For wingshooting, the vent rib and fiber optic bead work great as-is.
The two share the same internals and Inertia Plus operating system. The main difference is receiver shape: the standard ACE has a classic slope-back profile while the ACE-R uses a slight humpback design that some folks prefer for its sight plane. Choosing between them mostly comes down to which look and feel you like better.
