Description

Neck tension is one of those little details that separates good handloads from great ones, and a quality bushing is how you control it. This is Redding's .337 diameter neck sizing bushing, machined from heat-treated steel and built to let you size only the brass you want, how much you want. Instead of overworking your case necks with a standard die, a bushing setup lets you fine-tune the fit and keep your brass living longer.

What the Redding .337 Steel Bushing Does

The idea here is control. By choosing the right bushing diameter, you give the bullet just enough grip without squeezing the neck down more than necessary. Redding recommends measuring the outside neck diameter of a loaded round with a good micrometer, then subtracting about .001" to .002" to account for brass spring-back and the tension you're after. Land on a reading near .337 and this is your bushing. Keep in mind that neck wall thickness and the accuracy of your measuring tools both factor into picking the right size, so measure a few loaded rounds before committing.

Build and Finish on the 73337 Bushing

Redding makes these from heat-treated steel with the sizing diameter hand-polished to a surface hardness of Rc 60-62. That hardness cuts down on sizing effort and helps the bushing hold its dimension over a lot of cycles, which matters if you're running high volume on the bench. The size is clearly marked right on the bushing so you're never guessing which one you grabbed out of the box.

Fitment for the Redding 73 Style Bushing

These freely interchange across the full line of Redding bushing-style sizing dies, including the popular Type S neck and full-length setups. They share the standard 1/2" outside diameter by 3/8" length dimensions, so they also work with Wilson-style bushing dies. The .337 falls within Redding's steel bushing range, which spans the common calibers you'd load from the .17s on up through the .338 family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which dies does the Redding .337 steel bushing fit?

It freely interchanges across Redding's bushing-style sizing dies, including the Type S neck and full-length bushing dies. Because it uses the standard 1/2" outside diameter by 3/8" length format, it also works with Wilson-style bushing dies. You can swap bushings in and out as your brass or load changes.

How do I know if .337 is the right bushing size for me?

Measure the outside neck diameter of a loaded or dummy cartridge with a precision micrometer, then subtract about .001" to .002" to allow for brass spring-back and the neck tension you want. If that math lands you near .337, this is the one. It's worth measuring several loaded rounds, since neck wall thickness can vary from case to case.

What is the difference between the steel bushing and the titanium nitride version?

This is the heat-treated steel bushing, hand-polished to an Rc 60-62 surface hardness. Redding also offers a titanium nitride coated version that adds extra surface hardness and reduces sizing friction a bit further. Both share the same dimensions and fit the same dies, so it comes down to preference and how much sizing you do.

Will a bushing die help my brass last longer?

It can. A bushing only sizes the neck down as much as you choose, so you avoid the overworking you get from a standard one-size die. Less working of the brass generally means fewer annealing cycles and longer case life.
