Description
This is the standalone Group A seater die for .223 Remington, the same seater found in RCBS two-die rifle sets sold on its own so you can replace a worn part, build a custom setup, or pair it with a sizing die you already own. It handles two jobs at once: pushing the bullet down to your desired depth and rolling the case mouth into the bullet for a secure hold, all in a single pass of the ram.
The way it works is straightforward. You drop your primed and charged brass into the shell holder, set the bullet on the case mouth, and raise the ram. The adjustable seater plug controls how deep the bullet sits so you can dial in your cartridge overall length, and the built-in roll crimp curls the case mouth into the bullet cannelure to keep everything in place under recoil or through a feeding cycle. If you would rather seat without crimping, backing the die body off so the crimp shoulder no longer engages the case mouth lets you run bullets uncrimped.
What Sets the Group A .223 Seater Die Apart
RCBS machines these from proprietary die steel and cuts them with a standard 7/8"-14 thread, which is the industry benchmark the company originally established. That means this die threads right into nearly any single-stage or progressive press from RCBS, Hornady, Lee, Lyman, Redding, Dillon, and others. It is a genuine mix-and-match part, not something locked to one brand of press.
Built to Outlast Your Brass
The roll crimp really earns its keep on rounds headed for hunting or higher-pressure target work, where you want the bullet held firm against movement. Backed by the RCBS limited lifetime warranty to the original owner, this seater die is the kind of tool that stays on the bench for decades. Whether you are feeding a bolt gun or loading up range ammo, it delivers the clean, repeatable results reloaders count on from RCBS.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the RCBS Group A .223 seater die fit my press?
Yes, in almost every case. It uses the industry-standard 7/8"-14 thread, which RCBS originally established and is now universal. That means it threads into single-stage and progressive presses from RCBS, Hornady, Lee, Lyman, Redding, Dillon, and more.
Does this die crimp the bullet, and can I turn the crimp off?
It applies a roll crimp that rolls the case mouth into the bullet's cannelure to hold it firmly in place. If you want to seat without crimping, back the die body off so the crimp shoulder no longer contacts the case mouth. That flexibility lets you run crimped rounds for hunting or uncrimped rounds for precision target loads.
Is this a full die set or just the seater die?
This is the seater die only, sold on its own. It is handy if you need to replace a seater, want to pair it with a sizing die you already have, or are building a custom .223 reloading setup. If you need to size and deprime brass too, you will want a separate full-length sizing die.
Is the roll crimp a good choice for .223 loaded for an AR-15?
A roll crimp works well for bolt guns and general handloading. For semi-auto AR-platform rifles, many reloaders prefer a taper crimp because it is more forgiving of varied case lengths and helps prevent bullet setback during feeding. RCBS makes an AR Series taper crimp seater die if that is the route you want to go.
