The Radian Raptor-SD tackles that head on with a ported shaft that redirects propellant gas down and forward, keeping it out of your face when you're running a suppressor. It bolts in with the same simple swap as any charging handle, so you get a noticeable comfort upgrade without touching the rest of your rifle.
The secret is in the shaft. Where a normal charging handle is solid, the Raptor-SD is machined with a series of vents that give trapped gas somewhere to go besides straight back at you. That venting design was innovative enough to earn Radian its own utility patent. Folks running gassy short-barrel builds and blowback-heavy setups consistently report it takes a real bite out of the fumes, especially paired with a little gas tuning at the block. It won't erase blowback entirely, no charging handle can, but the difference between this and a mil-spec handle is easy to feel at the range.
Up top, the Raptor-SD keeps everything that made the original Raptor a favorite. The oversized, textured latches work identically on both sides, so you can palm-blade the handle, use a finger-thumb grip, or run it one handed from your strong or support side without changing your technique. Absolutely. Plenty of folks run it unsuppressed just for the bigger, tougher ambidextrous latches and smoother feel over a factory handle. The gas venting simply won't come into play until you've got a can on the end of the barrel.
