There are compact bolt guns, and then there's The Fix. Q developed the 8.6 Blackout cartridge by necking up a shortened 6.5 Creedmoor case to .338 caliber, and this pistol is the platform purpose-built for it. The whole concept hinges on the barrel: an 8 inch stainless tube with an aggressive 1:3 twist that spins heavy bullets fast enough to stabilize both subsonic and supersonic loads. Screw a can onto the M18x1.5 tapered threads (a Cherry Bomb brake comes installed in the meantime) and you've got a whisper-quiet thumper that hits like a freight train, all in a package that weighs around 4.9 pounds.
Q didn't dress up a Remington 700 and call it new. The Fix is built on a lightweight monolithic aluminum receiver with the bolt locking directly into the barrel instead of a heavy steel action. That design is why barrel swaps happen at your bench, not a gunsmith's, and why the whole gun comes apart with T-25 screws. The 45 degree short-throw bolt handle cycles noticeably faster than a traditional 90 degree throw, and the two-stage match trigger breaks clean without the mush you get from most factory bolt guns. If you run ARs, you'll feel at home right away. The safety selector and magazine release sit exactly where your thumb expects them, it feeds from SR-25 pattern magazines, and a full-length Picatinny top rail takes your optic without adapters.
This is the setup for hunters and suppressor fans who want serious terminal performance without hauling a full-size rifle. The SBA3 brace adjusts to fit, the free-float Q-Sert handguard gives you M-LOK real estate for a light or bipod, and the whole thing tucks into a pack with room to spare. Ships with one 5-round magazine, so you're ready to top it with glass and get to work. For hog control, treestand hunts, or quiet range sessions behind a big can, there's nothing else quite like it.
8.6 Blackout is Q's big-bore cartridge, made by shortening a 6.5 Creedmoor case and necking it up to .338 caliber. It was designed from the start to burn its powder in short barrels, so this 8 inch tube gives up very little compared to longer setups. Run it subsonic with a suppressor for quiet, heavy-hitting performance, or load supersonic when you want more reach.
That ultra-fast twist is the secret sauce of 8.6 Blackout. Spinning heavy .338 bullets that quickly stabilizes them even at subsonic velocities, and the extreme rotational speed contributes to dramatic terminal performance on game. Standard .338 twist rates simply can't stabilize 300 grain bullets moving under 1,050 fps out of a short barrel.
It's one of the best big-bore hosts out there. The muzzle wears M18x1.5 tapered threads with a Cherry Bomb brake installed, which works directly with Q's taper-mount suppressors, and since it's a bolt gun there's no gas system blowback to deal with. Subsonic 8.6 Blackout through a can is remarkably quiet for the energy it delivers.
It feeds from SR-25 (AR-10) pattern magazines, which are cheap and available everywhere. One 5-round magazine comes in the box. Most quality SR-25 pattern mags will run, though as with any necked cartridge in AR-10 mags, it's worth testing your preferred brand with your chosen load.
