If you own a Mini Fix and you're looking to add a 16 inch 5.56 NATO option to your setup, this is the factory barrel Q builds specifically for that purpose. It's machined from 416R stainless steel, a material well known in the barrel world for holding tight tolerances and shrugging off corrosion better than standard chrome moly. The light profile keeps weight down without turning the barrel into a noodle, which matters on a rifle built around the idea of staying quick and packable.
The bore is cut with 5R single point rifling on a 1:7 twist, a combination that plays well with a wide spread of 5.56 and .223 Remington bullet weights, from lighter varmint loads up to heavier match ammo. The exterior wears a bead blasted matte finish that cuts glare and adds a bit of extra corrosion resistance on top of what the stainless already provides. At right around 2 pounds 6 ounces including the extension and jam nut, it stays true to the lightweight philosophy Q designed the whole Fix lineup around.
What sets the Fix platform apart from a typical bolt gun is that Q engineered it so barrels aren't a permanent marriage. This barrel arrives with the extension already headspaced and the jam nut fitted, which takes one of the trickier parts of a barrel swap off your plate. You'll still need to pull the scope, top rail, and handguard to get at the barrel nut, along with a spanner wrench and a torque wrench to do the job right, but there's no need to send it out to a smith. The 1/2×28 tapered threading at the muzzle is the same pattern most 5.56 suppressors and brakes use, so pairing it with something like a Cherry Bomb or another standard muzzle device isn't an issue.
This barrel is built for someone who already has a Mini Fix and wants a dedicated 16 inch 5.56 barrel on hand, whether that's for a caliber change, a backup in case something happens to the barrel currently installed, or just to have options depending on what the day at the range calls for.
It arrives with a headspaced barrel extension and jam nut already fitted, so there's no need to have a gunsmith set headspace for you. That's one of the features that makes the Fix system different from most switch barrel setups. You'll still need the right tools to remove the old barrel and install this one properly.
You'll need to remove the scope, top rail, and handguard before you can get to the barrel nut, plus a spanner wrench and a torque wrench to do the install correctly. It's not a five minute job, but it's very doable at home with the right gear and a little patience. A vise or mag block to hold the receiver steady helps a lot too.
The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pattern for most 5.56 suppressors, flash hiders, and brakes, including Q's own Cherry Bomb. As long as your muzzle device uses that thread pitch, it should thread on without any issue.
