The Cherry Bomb is the little copper-colored brake that anchors Q's whole Quickie Fast-Attach mounting system. On its own it works as a compact 7.62 muzzle brake, venting gas through 360 degree circumferential ports that tame recoil and muzzle movement on .308 and other .30 caliber rifles. Because the porting runs all the way around the device, there is zero timing involved. No shims, no crush washers, no fiddling to get it clocked right. Thread it on, torque it down, done.
Where this brake really earns its keep is as the host-side mount for Q suppressors like the Thunder Chicken and Trash Panda, along with anything else built around the Plan-B mounting system. The taper mount shoulder gives the can a solid, repeatable lock-up every time you spin it on, which matters a lot for keeping your zero consistent between suppressed and unsuppressed shooting. It is also backwards compatible with standard 90 degree shouldered barrels, so you do not need a Q barrel to run one.
Q machined the front of the Cherry Bomb to accept a common 1/2 inch socket, so installation and removal take a ratchet instead of a specialty wrench. A 1/4 inch drive socket tends to fit the flats best. The whole thing is cut from 17-4 stainless steel, weighs just 2 ounces, and measures 1.64 inches overall while adding only about 0.8 inches past the muzzle. That is a small footprint for a device that handles brake duty and suppressor mounting in one piece.
This 5/8×24 version fits most threaded .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, and other .30 caliber bore barrels with that thread pitch. If you already own a Q can or plan on picking one up, this is the mount to have on every host rifle in the safe. And even if a suppressor is not in the picture yet, you get a lightweight, no-nonsense brake that will be ready for one down the road.
It is the native mount for Q's fast-attach cans, including the Thunder Chicken and Trash Panda, and it works with any suppressor built around the Q Plan-B mounting system. Several other manufacturers make Plan-B compatible mounts as well, so the Cherry Bomb has become a common interface beyond just Q silencers. No, and that is one of its best features. The ports run 360 degrees around the brake, so there is no top or bottom to clock. Thread it onto your 5/8×24 muzzle, tighten it with a 1/2 inch socket on the front, and you are set. A 1/4 inch drive socket usually fits the flats the best.
Yes. While it is designed around Q's tapered barrel shoulders for ideal alignment, it is backwards compatible with conventional 90 degree shouldered barrels. That means it will mount up fine on most factory threaded .308 and .30 caliber barrels with 5/8×24 threads.
Q advises against it. At 1.64 inches overall, the Cherry Bomb is too short for pin and weld work, and it is not intended for permanent attachment. If you need to make up barrel length with a permanently attached device, look at a longer muzzle device instead and save the Cherry Bomb for a barrel that is already at length.
