The PWS MK116 Mod 1-M takes the 7.62×39 cartridge and mates it to Primary Weapons Systems' long-stroke piston operating system. Instead of dumping hot gas back into the receiver the way a standard AR does, the piston drives the bolt carrier from up front, keeping the action cleaner and cooler across long strings. It's the same principle that made the AK famous for running dirty and running anyway. This is a complete upper, so it drops onto any spec AR-15 lower with no fitting or extra parts, and it's ready to run right out of the box.
The heart of this thing is that carbine-length long-stroke piston paired with a 3-setting adjustable gas system. That gas regulator lets you tune the upper for standard shooting, dial it back for a suppressor, or shut it off entirely.
