There's a lot to like about a wood-stocked gas gun that doesn't cost a fortune, and the Pointer FT3 Field Trek is a good example of the breed done right. Built in Turkey and imported by Legacy Sports International, this 12 gauge runs a gas-operated action that bleeds off recoil energy as it cycles, which means softer shoulders at the end of a long dove hunt and quicker follow-ups when a second bird flushes. The 3-inch chamber handles everything from light target loads to heavier field ammo, and the 3+1 capacity keeps things simple in the field.
The 28-inch barrel is chrome lined for corrosion resistance and easier cleanup, finished in matte blue, and topped with a raised vent rib and red fiber optic front sight that pulls your eye right to the bead on gray-sky mornings. The receiver wears a gray Cerakote finish that shrugs off weather and scratches better than traditional bluing, and it looks sharp against the oiled Turkish walnut stock and forend. The wood on these tends to show nice grain for the price point, and the ventilated rubber butt pad takes another bite out of felt recoil.
Five choke tubes come standard: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That spread covers close-flushing quail, decoying ducks, longer passing shots, and everything between, and the tubes follow the common Mobil-style pattern so aftermarket options are easy to find. A crossbolt safety sits right where your trigger finger expects it, length of pull runs 14 inches, and the whole package balances at a carry-friendly weight in the mid six pound range. Give it a good cleaning and a light coat of lube before the first range trip, run a few boxes of shells through it to settle in, and this Pointer will earn its spot in the truck for seasons to come.

The gas system generally runs standard 2-3/4 inch target loads fine once the gun is broken in. Like most gas-operated shotguns, it helps to give it a thorough cleaning and light lube out of the box, then run a few boxes of heavier field loads through it first. After that break-in period, owners report reliable cycling with typical bulk pack target ammo.
You get five tubes in the box: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full, plus a wrench to swap them. That range covers everything from skeet distances to longer waterfowl and turkey-style shots. The threading follows the widely used Mobil-style pattern, so finding aftermarket tubes is easy.
It really is a do-it-all field gun. The 28-inch vent rib barrel swings smoothly on crossing clays, the gas action tames recoil for long practice sessions, and the 3-inch chamber lets you step up to stouter loads for pheasant, ducks, or geese. The fiber optic front sight is a nice bonus in low light or against busy backgrounds.
