There's something about a walnut-stocked 20 gauge that just feels right in the field, and the Pointer FT21 from Legacy Sports delivers that classic look without the classic price tag. The Turkish walnut stock and forend sit against a black aluminum receiver and 28 inch vent rib barrel, so it carries light and swings the way a bird gun should. The 3 inch chamber handles everything from light target loads to heavier hunting shells, and the 5+1 capacity gives you a little extra in the tube when the doves keep coming.
The raised vent rib and red fiber optic front sight get your eye on target fast in low light, whether that's a grouse flushing at first light or the last clay of the evening. A rotating bolt keeps cycling smooth, and the crossbolt safety sits right where your trigger finger expects it. The rubber butt pad takes the edge off recoil, though in 20 gauge there isn't much edge to take off in the first place. That's a big part of why this gauge keeps winning over newer hunters and smaller-framed folks alike.
Pointer ships the FT21 with a five-piece multi-choke set covering Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That means you can run skeet in the morning with an open choke and screw in the Full for a late season pheasant hunt without buying anything extra. Swapping tubes takes a minute and completely changes what this gun is set up to do.
At 48 inches overall, it balances nicely between the hands and points naturally, which matters more on fast-crossing birds than any spec sheet number. If you've been wanting a wood-stocked autoloader for the uplands, the dove field, or weekend clays without draining the gun fund, the FT21 in 20 gauge is a smart place to land. Pair it with a few boxes of your favorite loads and go break it in.
The FT21 ships with a five-piece multi-choke set: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That covers just about everything from close-range skeet to longer shots on late season birds. Having all five in the box means you won't need to buy chokes separately to get started.
Yes. The 3 inch chamber accepts both 2 3/4 and 3 inch 20 gauge shells, so you can run light target loads at the range and step up to heavier hunting loads in the field. As with most semi-autos, very light loads may not cycle reliably until the gun is broken in, so run a few boxes of standard field loads through it first.
It's a solid pick. The 20 gauge produces noticeably less recoil than a 12 gauge, and the semi-auto action soaks up even more of the push, making it comfortable for newer wingshooters. The fiber optic front sight and vent rib also make it easier to stay on target as you learn.
Pointer shotguns are imported by Legacy Sports International and built in Turkey, a region known for producing well-made, affordable shotguns. The FT21 features a machined aluminum receiver and oil-finished Turkish walnut furniture. Legacy Sports backs its Pointer line with U.S.-based service and parts support.
