There is something about a .410 over/under that just feels right in the field. Light in the hands, easy on the shoulder, and quick to point, the Pointer Acrius brings that classic double-gun experience without the classic double-gun price tag. The color case hardened receiver gives it a look you usually see on guns costing several times more, and the Turkish walnut stock and forend back it up with real wood warmth instead of plastic.
The 28 inch chrome lined barrels wear a raised ventilated rib topped with a fiber optic front sight, so picking up a flushing bird or a crossing clay is quick and natural. Chambers are cut for 3 inch shells, giving you room to run everything from light 2.5 inch target loads to full-house 3 inch small game rounds. A tang mounted safety doubles as the barrel selector, the trigger is mechanical, and extractors lift your spent hulls for easy removal. It all adds up to a simple, dependable break-open that does not ask much and does not have much to go wrong.
Pointer includes five interchangeable chokes with the Acrius: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. That is a genuinely useful spread for a .410, where pattern density matters more than in the bigger gauges. Screw in Full for squirrels in tall timber, drop to IC for close-flushing quail, or split the difference for doves and skeet. Not many guns in this class hand you the whole set up front.
This one covers a lot of ground. It makes a great first break-open for someone learning the ropes, since the .410's soft recoil keeps new shooters focused on fundamentals instead of flinching. It is just as at home with an experienced upland hunter who wants a light, handsome gun for walking fencerows, or anyone who appreciates the challenge of shooting clays with the little bore. Fit and finish on these Turkish-built doubles has earned a solid reputation, and the Acrius wears its case colors well.
It is one of the better entry points out there. The break-open action is simple to learn and easy to verify safe, and the .410's light recoil lets newer shooters build fundamentals without getting beat up. The tang safety and mechanical trigger keep operation straightforward too.
The chambers are cut for 3 inch shells, so it will run both 2.5 inch and 3 inch .410 loads. That covers everything from light target loads for clays to heavier small game rounds. The chrome lined barrels also make cleanup easier after a long day of shooting.
This model uses extractors, which lift the spent hulls out of the chambers so you can pluck them by hand rather than flinging them into the grass. A lot of hunters prefer extractors since you keep your empties and there are fewer moving parts to fuss with.
With the smaller payload of a .410, tighter chokes usually earn their keep. Full or Improved Modified works well for squirrels and rabbits at typical distances, while Improved Cylinder or Modified is a better call for close-flushing birds and clays. Since all five chokes come in the box, you can experiment and see what patterns best with your favorite load.
