Description
Patriot Ordnance Factory built the P-415 Edge upper around one idea: keep an AR running when everything else quits. Instead of dumping hot gas back into the receiver like a standard direct impingement gun, this one uses a short-stroke piston to cycle the action. That means less heat and carbon crud collecting around the bolt carrier, so you get longer stretches between deep cleanings and more reliable function when things get dirty. In a 10.5-inch barrel configuration, you end up with a compact, handy package that's a great foundation for a short carbine or braced build.
What Makes the P-415 Edge Upper Tick
The heart of this thing is POF's patented E2 dual extraction system, which cuts four small channels into the chamber walls. A touch of gas pressure pushes back on the spent case neck to break it loose, which eases extraction and takes strain off the extractor over the long haul. Behind that sits a one-piece piston bolt carrier with the gas key machined right in, which prevents carrier tilt, and a roller cam pin that glides across the upper instead of dragging on it. You also get a 5-position adjustable gas plug, so you can tune the system for different loads or dial it back when you run a suppressor.
Barrel, Rail, and Build Details
The 10.5-inch barrel is 4150 chrome moly vanadium steel with a black nitride heat treatment for wear and corrosion resistance, cut with 5R rifling in a 1:8 twist that handles everything from lighter varmint loads up to heavier 77-grain match bullets. Up front is a threaded 1/2×28 muzzle ready for your brake or can. The billet aluminum receiver wears a black hard coat anodized finish and carries a full-length top Picatinny rail plus M4 feed ramps. The free-floating 9-inch M-LOK handguard measures just 1.75 inches wide, keeping the whole platform slim, light, and easy to hang lights, grips, and QD sling mounts on.
It drops onto any mil-spec AR lower, and POF ships it complete with a U.S. flag laser-engraved ejection port cover, forward assist, and the ambidextrous Tomahawk charging handle installed. Add your lower, a suitable buffer setup, and you're most of the way to a finished piston-driven 5.56.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the P-415 upper work on my standard AR-15 lower?
Yes. The P-415 Edge upper is built to drop onto any mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver, so you can pair it with the lower you already have. Just make sure your buffer and spring setup suits a short-barrel piston build for the smoothest cycling.
What's the advantage of the piston system over direct impingement on this upper?
The short-stroke piston vents gas out near the barrel instead of routing it back into the receiver, which keeps heat and carbon fouling away from the bolt carrier. In practice that means the action runs cooler and cleaner, so you can shoot longer between cleanings. The 5-position adjustable gas plug also lets you tune function for different ammo or suppressed use.
Does the P-415 upper come with a bolt carrier group and charging handle?
It does. This is a complete upper that ships with POF's piston bolt carrier group featuring a roller cam pin, plus the ambidextrous Tomahawk charging handle installed. You supply the lower and the appropriate buffer components to finish the build.
What twist rate is the barrel and what bullet weights does it like?
The 10.5-inch barrel uses a 1:8 twist with 5R rifling. That's a versatile rate that stabilizes a wide range of 5.56 and .223 loads, from lighter varmint-weight bullets up through heavier 77-grain match projectiles.
