Patriot Ordnance Factory built this ambidextrous selector for anyone who has ever wished their AR safety worked as well from the off hand as it does from the strong side. It gives you controls on both sides of the receiver and, better yet, lets you choose between a 50 degree short throw or a standard 90 degree throw. That means you can set it up for a quick, low-effort flick or keep it at a full sweep, whichever your thumb prefers.
The 50/90 degree option is the real story here. A shorter throw lets you go from safe to fire faster and with less thumb travel, which a lot of folks like on a fighting or competition rifle. Prefer the familiar feel of a full 90? Set it there and go. The levers are textured for extra grip, so wet, sweaty, or gloved hands still get a positive contact point every time.
Installation is about as painless as it gets. It goes in just like a standard mil-spec selector, with one added step: once the selector body is seated, you attach the side levers using a 1/16 Allen wrench. That extra step takes a minute and lets you position the levers where they feel right. It's designed to fit mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers, and POF also lists it as compatible across a wide range of their own lowers.
Most factory ARs favor right-handed operation, so southpaws and anyone who runs the gun from their support side get shortchanged on the standard setup. The ambi layout fixes that by putting a lever on each side, making manipulation natural no matter which hand is on the grip. The black finish keeps it looking clean and holds up to regular use, whether you're upgrading a stock carbine or building something new from the ground up.
The 90 degree setting is the standard full sweep from safe to fire that most AR shooters are used to. The 50 degree setting is a shorter throw, so your thumb moves less to switch modes, which many people prefer for faster transitions. This selector lets you choose either one, so you can set it up however your hand likes to run it.
This is the selector assembly with its levers and mounting hardware. It does not include a selector detent and spring, so if yours are worn or missing you'll want to have those on hand before you start. Most existing AR lowers already have a good detent and spring in place, so you can usually reuse what's in the rifle.
Not at all. It installs just like a standard mil-spec selector, with the one added step of attaching the side levers using a 1/16 Allen wrench once the body is seated. If you've swapped a selector before, this will feel very familiar and takes only a few minutes.
It's designed to drop into mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers, and POF lists it as compatible with a broad range of their own lowers as well. If you're running a billet or non-standard receiver, it's worth double checking your selector pocket dimensions before ordering.
