The Pachmayr Competition Speedloader is built tough from solid aluminum, not plastic like cheaper alternatives. Every loader is CNC-machined to tight tolerances and finished in blue, designed specifically for S&W J-Frame revolvers chambered in 38 Special or 357 Magnum.
Unlike typical round speedloaders, the Pachmayr Competition cuts a polygon shape into the body to minimize outside dimensions. This flat-sided design matters more than it sounds. When you're loading your revolver on the move, the polygon edges stay out of the way of your grips, so you're not fighting with a round body getting in the way. The compact profile also means easier pocket carry at the range or in a range bag.
An O-ring sits inside the loader body and contacts the cartridge bases, holding them firmly in place. This does two things: it eliminates the annoying rattle when you move the loader around, and it keeps your rounds from flopping around inside, which makes loading smoother and faster. Your cartridges stay rigidly aligned until you need them.
Loading is straightforward. Drop five rounds in, twist the large knurled knob clockwise to lock them down, and you're set. When it's time to reload your revolver, place the loader over the cylinder, then twist the knob counterclockwise to release all five rounds at once. The Pachmayr 02650 is designed for S&W J-Frame revolvers but is also compatible with Ruger LCR, Ruger SP101, Charter Arms, and certain Taurus and Rossi models that share J-Frame specifications. Fit can vary by model, so check compatibility with your specific revolver before purchase. Some users report tighter fit with 357 Magnum ammunition.
Load five cartridges into the holes with the polygonal body facing up, then twist the large knurled knob clockwise until it stops to lock them in. To reload your revolver, align the speedloader over the cylinder and twist the knob counterclockwise to release all five rounds simultaneously into the chambers.
The polygonal body is designed to fit compact revolvers with minimal bulk, but grip compatibility varies. Larger aftermarket grips, particularly those with significant circumference, may cause the body to stick or prevent smooth operation. If you have oversized grips, test compatibility or measure clearance before relying on this loader.
The solid aluminum construction is more durable and durable than plastic alternatives, with better resistance to impact and wear from regular range use.
