Description
If you carry a J-Frame for personal protection or training, switching from factory grips to something with real grip is one of the easiest upgrades you can make. The Pachmayr Gripper delivers exactly that. This grip transforms how your hand stays planted on the gun during recoil and follow-up shots.
Recoil Absorption and Control
The rubber compound Pachmayr uses is purpose-built to manage recoil instead of transferring it straight to your hand. The slight palm swell fits naturally without overbuilding the grip envelope, so you keep the compact carry profile that makes J-Frames so practical. Full checkering across the surface gives positive traction under stress, whether you're training hard or managing a defensive situation. The finger grooves guide hand placement consistently, shot after shot.
Covered Backstrap Design
This grip wraps protection around the backstrap area of the frame, which matters more than you'd think on a pocket gun. It protects your hand from sharp edges and provides more surface for control when you need it. The covered backstrap also means the grip stays put during recoil without rolling in your hand. Installation is straightforward, using the existing grip screw on your revolver.
Built for Daily Carry
Weight stays minimal at 0.32 ounces, so this upgrade doesn't change how your gun sits in a holster or pocket. The black finish is classic and low-key. Whether you're running a Model 36, 637, 642, or any other J-Frame round butt, this grip is a no-fuss improvement that makes the gun feel like it was always meant to handle this well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this Pachmayr grip fit all J-Frame revolvers?
This grip is designed specifically for S&W J-Frame revolvers with a round butt. Models like the 36, 37, 38, 60, 637, 638, 642, 649, and 951 all use the round butt profile. Make sure your revolver has a round butt and not a square butt before ordering, as Pachmayr makes a separate grip for square butt frames.
Will this grip make my J-Frame feel less concealable?
The Gripper wraps around more of the frame than factory grips, but it adds almost no width to the gun itself. At 0.32 ounces, the weight is negligible and it doesn't change how the revolver fits in a standard holster. Many folks find the better control is worth the minimal profile increase.
How does the rubber compound absorb recoil?
Pachmayr's specially formulated rubber is engineered to flex and dampen the shock of recoil instead of transmitting it directly into your hand. This isn't a drastic reduction on a 38 Special, but combined with the palm swell and finger grooves, it keeps your hand from sliding and twisting during recoil.
Are these grips easy to install?
Yes. You just loosen the grip screw that came on your revolver, remove the old grips, slide the new Pachmayr grips onto the frame, and tighten the screw back down. No gunsmithing or special tools needed, and it takes a couple of minutes.
