The Pachmayr Diamond Pro grip fills the hand comfortably and wraps completely around your J-Frame without gaps or seams. This isn't a thin overlay—it's a substantial one-piece design that covers the backstrap, which matters a lot when you're dealing with recoil. The finger grooves help your hand find the same position every time, making the gun more natural to shoot.
The Diamond Plate texture looks industrial and tough, but it serves a real purpose. It gives you a firm, non-slip surface that holds steady even when shooting heavier loads or when things get wet. The rubber compound Pachmayr uses isn't thin or squeaky—it's soft and substantive, formulated to soak up impact and reduce the felt snap of recoil without being mushy or rolling around in your hand. This works especially well on the compact J-Frame, where the factory frame can really sting on follow-up shots.
These grips slide onto the frame after you remove the grip screw and tap out the cross pin. The grip sits high in the frame and wraps around completely, so there's no exposed frame between your palm and the grip. Installation takes just a few minutes and uses the single grip screw that comes with the set. The completed installation is clean—the screw head disappears almost completely into the rubber, and you won't feel it or the nut underneath when you're shooting.

These grips are designed for all Smith & Wesson J-Frame Round Butt revolvers, including models like the 642, 442, 637, 36, 60, and many others. The round butt profile is the key compatibility factor. If your J-Frame has a square butt, these won't fit.
The soft rubber compound and backstrap coverage noticeably reduce felt recoil compared to shooting with factory grips or a bare frame. The effect is most noticeable on higher-recoil loads or during extended shooting sessions, where the softer material genuinely absorbs impact energy.
The Diamond Pro is bulkier than factory grips, so holster fit depends on your specific holster. Some IWB and OWB holsters will accommodate it without issue, while older holsters designed for slim factory grips may be too tight. Before assuming your holster won't work, try fitting the revolver with the new grip on—you might find it works fine.
Remove the grip screw and tap out the cross pin at the bottom of the grip frame using a punch. Slide the wraparound grip up the frame until it's fully seated, then insert the included grip screw into the hidden nut on the opposite side. Tighten snugly—you don't need to over-torque it.
