There's something about a blacked-out single action with brass accents that just works. Pietta built this one on their proven 1873 pattern, then finished the alloy steel frame and 3.5 inch barrel in matte black so it skips the shine and gets straight to business. The brass backstrap and trigger guard break up all that black with a warm, old-school touch, and the black checkered grip adds real traction where smooth walnut would slide around. It's a sharp looking piece that stands apart from the usual case-hardened crowd.
The 38 Super chambering is what makes this revolver interesting. It's a fast, flat-shooting cartridge with a devoted following among competition and 1911 fans, and running it through a six-shot single action cylinder is a genuinely fun change of pace. Recoil stays mild, so long range sessions are easy on the hands, and if you already load or stock 38 Super, this gives that ammo a second home. The short 3.5 inch barrel keeps the whole package quick to the holster and handy on the hip or in a pack.
Pietta has been building single actions in Gussago, Italy for over sixty years, and their guns have a reputation for smooth actions, solid fit, and factory sights that hit where you look. This model carries that same four-click character, the hammer rolling back with that familiar rhythm before each shot. Whether you're adding a distinctive piece to a Western collection, want a trail companion with some personality, or just like the idea of a 38 Super wheelgun that doesn't look like everyone else's, this one delivers the goods without fuss.
No. Despite the similar names, 38 Super and 38 Special are completely different cartridges and are not interchangeable. This cylinder is chambered specifically for 38 Super Auto, so stick with that cartridge. If you want 38 Special capability in a Pietta single action, look at their 357 Magnum models instead.
It's a single action, true to the classic 1873 pattern. You cock the hammer manually for each shot, which rotates the cylinder to a fresh chamber, and the trigger releases the hammer to fire. It has that familiar four-click hammer feel that fans of traditional six-guns appreciate.
No moon clips required here. Pietta chambers their revolvers for rimless and semi-rimmed cartridges so rounds headspace properly in the cylinder, meaning you load and eject 38 Super just like any traditional revolver cartridge using the ejector rod. It keeps things simple at the range.
The backstrap and trigger guard are genuine brass, not a plated finish. Pietta has used real brass grip frames on their revolvers for decades, and it develops a nice character over time with handling. Against the matte black frame and barrel, the contrast really stands out.
