Description

The Phase 5 Extended Bolt Release V2 is one of the few genuinely good bolt release upgrades built specifically for the .308 platform. It replaces your factory bolt catch with an extended lever that reaches into the trigger guard area, so you can lock the bolt back or send it home using your trigger finger without breaking your grip. If you've ever fumbled around the left side of a big-frame rifle trying to find the release from prone, this is the fix. Guys running matches love it because you can lock back at every position change without shifting your hand off the gun.

What sets this one apart from a Magpul-style BAD lever is the design. Instead of clamping onto your existing bolt catch with screws that can back out or snag, the EBRv2 is a direct one-piece replacement for the whole part. It's machined from heat-treated steel using Phase 5's monolithic tri-steel construction, which keeps it light without giving up strength. Because there are no backing plates or hardware hanging off the side, there's less to fail and less to catch on your gear.

How the EBRv2 .308 Fits Your Build

This version is made for DPMS Gen 1, LR-308, and AR-308 type platforms. It's a proven match for popular receivers like the Aero Precision M5 and M5E1, DPMS LR-308 uppers, and similar forged lowers, and folks running 6.5 Creedmoor builds on those same receiver sets use it too. Worth knowing up front: it is not built for the Armalite AR-10, DPMS Gen 2, or Sig 716. Fitment is generally tightest on forged lowers, and some billet or CNC-machined lowers may need a light tweak to seat perfectly, so it's smart to know which lower you have before you pin it in.

Why the .308 Bolt Release Crowd Keeps Coming Back

Once it's on the rifle, the feedback is consistent. People describe the all-steel, one-piece feel as noticeably more solid than aluminum add-on levers, and the trigger-finger position gets high marks for making reloads feel natural. Installation is a straightforward roll pin swap for most builds. It's a small part that makes a real difference in how you run a big-bore AR, and it looks sharp doing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Extended Bolt Release V2 fit my .308 rifle?

It's designed for DPMS Gen 1, LR-308, and AR-308 type platforms, and it's a proven fit on receivers like the Aero Precision M5 and M5E1 as well as DPMS LR-308 uppers. It is not compatible with the Armalite AR-10, DPMS Gen 2, or Sig 716. Fitment tends to be tightest on forged lowers, while some billet or CNC-machined lowers may need a slight adjustment to seat correctly.

How is the EBRv2 different from a Magpul BAD lever?

The BAD-style levers clamp onto your existing bolt catch using screws that can loosen over time. The Phase 5 EBRv2 is a one-piece direct replacement for the entire bolt catch, so there's no added hardware to back out or snag on your gear. Many owners find the all-steel one-piece build feels more solid and durable than aluminum add-on levers.

Does it work on 6.5 Creedmoor builds?

Yes. Since 6.5 Creedmoor runs on the same .308 AR-pattern receiver sets, the EBRv2 works on those builds too. Owners running it on Aero Precision M5E1 uppers and lowers in 6.5 Creedmoor report it fits and functions well.

Is the Extended Bolt Release V2 hard to install?

For most builds it's a simple job. You drive out the roll pin holding your factory bolt catch, drop in the EBRv2, and pin it back in place. Have a proper punch and some patience with the roll pin, and if you're working on a billet lower, check the fit before you fully seat it.
