Patriot Ordnance Factory has a reputation for building ARs with real engineering behind them, and the P-15 Base brings a lot of that thinking into an approachable package. This is a 100% American-made rifle built on POF's forged aluminum P-15 receiver set, finished in a clean flat black hard anodize. The heart of it is a 16.5 inch E2 match-grade barrel machined from 4150 CrMoV steel and treated with black nitride inside and out, cut with 5R rifling in a 1:8 twist that stabilizes everything from lightweight varmint loads to heavier match bullets. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 and capped with an A2 flash hider, so swapping in a different device down the road is simple.
The standout feature is POF's patented roller cam pin inside the mil-spec bolt carrier group. Instead of a standard cam pin dragging across the inside of your upper receiver, the roller head rolls through the channel, cutting friction and wear where most ARs take a beating over time. Pair that with POF's E2 chamber for improved extraction, a mid-length gas system with a low-profile nitride gas block, and an anti-tilt six-position buffer tube, and you get a rifle that cycles smoothly and stays that way.
At roughly 6.3 pounds unloaded, this carbine carries easily and swings fast. The 15 inch M-LOK handguard gives you a full-length 1913 rail up top for optics and plenty of slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock for lights, hand stops, or a bipod. The Mission First Tactical Minimalist stock keeps weight down while still giving you a solid cheek weld, and the familiar A2 grip and mil-spec trigger group keep the controls exactly where AR owners expect them.
This version of the P-15 Base, model 02317, includes one 10-round MFT magazine. Whether it becomes your go-to range rifle, a training gun, or the starting point for a long-term build, the bones here are genuinely good, and everything on it can be upgraded whenever you feel like tinkering.
On a standard AR, the cam pin slides against the inside of the upper receiver every time the bolt cycles, which slowly wears a groove into the aluminum. POF's patented roller cam pin has a rolling head that travels through that channel instead of dragging, which cuts friction, reduces wear, and helps the action cycle smoother over the long haul. It is one of the features that separates this rifle from typical entry-level ARs.
Yes. The 16.5 inch barrel comes with standard 1/2×28 muzzle threads and an A2 flash hider from the factory. That thread pitch is the most common for 5.56, so most suppressor mounts, brakes, and comps will spin right on.
It will. The 1:8 twist with 5R rifling is a great middle ground that stabilizes common 55 grain plinking ammo as well as heavier 69 to 77 grain match loads. Since it is chambered in 5.56 NATO, you can also safely run .223 Remington through it.
Model 02317 is the version that ships with a single 10-round MFT magazine, while model 02315 includes a 30-round magazine instead. The rifles themselves are otherwise the same, with the same 16.5 inch match-grade barrel, roller cam pin BCG, 15 inch M-LOK handguard, and MFT Minimalist stock.
