You get four brass rod sections with male/female 8-32 threaded ends and a swivel handle that screws together for smooth, controlled passes down the bore. This is the brass rod version. It uses four threaded brass rod sections that assemble with a swivel handle, rather than the flexible Memory-Flex cable found in Otis's pull-through kits. Some folks prefer rods for bench work and cables for breech-to-muzzle cleaning on semi-autos, so it comes down to how you like to clean.
No. Brass and bronze are both softer than the steel in your barrel, so they lift out carbon and copper fouling without scratching the bore or damaging the crown. That's the whole point of Otis using those materials instead of harder metals.
