Every good cleaning routine runs through a pile of patches, and Otis built these to hold up their end of the job. Cut from 100% cotton in a 2.5-inch square, they're absorbent enough to carry solvent deep into the bore and gentle enough to wipe down a slide, bolt, or action without shedding lint everywhere. The cotton weave picks up carbon and fouling while keeping streaks out of your barrel, which matters when you're chasing a truly clean bore.
The square shape is the practical part here. Stab one onto a solid rod jag, center it, and the corners fold in cleanly as it travels down the bore. A lot of folks who clean often lean toward square patches because they're easy to start on the jag and give you consistent contact all the way through. This 2.5-inch size covers a wide caliber range, working well from smaller centerfire rounds up through the mid-size stuff, and it doubles nicely for wiping down external surfaces during a full detail clean.
These are made for solid rod jags, not pull-through systems. If you run an Otis pull-through cable, reach for their round patches instead, since those feed through the loop the way they're meant to. Pairing the right jag diameter with the patch keeps tension just right, snug enough to scrub but not so tight it stalls in the bore. Run a wet patch first to lay down solvent, follow with your brush, then finish with dry patches until they come out clean.
At 100 patches to a bag, this is the kind of resupply that lives in the range bag or on the bench and just gets used. Whether you're doing quick post-range wipe-downs or a deep clean after a long season, having a fresh stack of quality cotton on hand makes the whole process smoother.
The 2.5-inch size covers a wide range, working well from smaller centerfire calibers up through mid-size rifle and pistol rounds. The right fit comes down to matching the patch to your jag diameter so it seats snug in the bore. For very small bores or larger shotgun gauges, you may want a size up or down to get proper tension.
These square patches are designed for solid rod jags, not pull-through cables. For Otis pull-through systems, use their round patches, which are shaped to feed through the loop correctly. Using the round style with a pull-through keeps everything moving smoothly through the bore.
Yes, the 100% cotton construction is absorbent while keeping lint to a minimum, which is what you want when you're finishing a bore and don't want fibers left behind. Cotton also carries solvent and oil well without streaking. That combination makes them a solid choice for both scrubbing and final passes.
It varies by how dirty the firearm is, but a typical cleaning burns through several patches between wet solvent passes and dry finishing passes. A 100-count bag is meant to last through many sessions, so keeping one on the bench means you're never rationing them. Buying in bulk like this is the practical way to stay stocked.
