The Noveske Afghan 14.5" barrel takes the 6mm ARC and gives it the full Noveske treatment. It starts with 416R stainless steel, cut with a 1:7 twist and a 3 land-and-groove bore, then finished with a hand-polished match chamber that Noveske cuts specifically for the ARC round. Add in the extended, hand-polished feed ramps on the M4 barrel extension and you've got a barrel that feeds smooth and shoots tight, which is exactly what the 6mm ARC was built to reward.
Those flutes aren't just for looks. Noveske's DDF pattern came out of an R&D project aimed at breaking up the barrel harmonics that mess with accuracy as the barrel heats up. The deep-cut longitudinal flutes add a big jump in surface area per inch, and Noveske's testing shows the DDF contour cools roughly 32% faster than a standard profile. Faster cooling and reduced resonance mean your shots stay consistent longer during a string, and the barrel sheds heat instead of holding onto it.
The 6mm ARC was Hornady's answer to getting real long-range performance out of the AR-15 platform. It pushes efficient, high-BC 6mm bullets flat and far, staying supersonic well past 1,000 yards with a fraction of the recoil of a .308. Every Afghan barrel is individually serialized for quality control and ships with a mid-length gas tube plus a Noveske-marked low-profile gas block pinned to the barrel. It comes with a headspaced, DLC-coated 6mm ARC bolt made from heat-treated 9310 steel, so the bolt-to-barrel fit is dialed from the factory. The 5/8×24 threaded muzzle is ready for a brake or your suppressor of choice, and the bead-blasted silver stainless finish looks the part on any serious build.
Yes. Each barrel ships with a headspaced, DLC-coated 6mm ARC bolt made from heat-treated 9310 steel, along with a matched mid-length gas tube. Since Noveske headspaces the bolt to the barrel from the factory, that critical fit is already handled for you. You'll still need a 6mm ARC magazine and a bolt carrier to complete the swap.
