North American Arms has been building tiny single action revolvers for decades, and the Black Widow is what happens when they give the concept a little more to hold onto. Built on the 22 Magnum frame, this convertible model ships with two factory-fitted cylinders: a bull cylinder for 22 WMR and a second cylinder chambered in 22 Long Rifle. Load the Magnum cylinder when you want the extra punch, then swap over to Long Rifle for cheap plinking and practice. Same gun, two very different ammo bills.
The standard NAA minis are famously small, and that comes with a jumpy feel in the hand. The Black Widow fixes that with an oversized rubber grip complete with the red hourglass medallion, a 2 inch heavy vent barrel, and a bull cylinder that adds just enough weight up front to settle the gun down. The whole package still weighs only 8.8 ounces and stretches under 6 inches long, so it disappears in a pocket, a tackle box, or a jacket, but it points and shoots more like a real handgun than a novelty. This version also wears Marble Arms adjustable sights, which is a big deal on a gun this size. You can dial in your point of impact for the load you settle on instead of guessing.
This is a true single action, so the hammer gets cocked for every shot, and the cylinder pin comes out for loading and unloading. It's a deliberate little gun, and that's part of the charm. The stainless steel construction shrugs off sweat and weather, which matters for something that spends its life riding close to your body or knocking around a pack on fishing and camping trips. Halfway notches between the chambers let the hammer rest safely with all five rounds loaded. Build quality is what NAA is known for, and it shows in the fit and finish. It takes just a few seconds and no tools. Put the hammer at half cock, pull the cylinder pin out from the front, and the cylinder drops free from the frame. Slide in the other cylinder, reinsert the pin, and you're ready to go. Loading and unloading works the same way, so it becomes second nature fast.
Yes. NAA machines safety notches between the chambers, so the hammer rests in a notch rather than on a live round. That's a real improvement over old-school single actions that had to be carried with an empty chamber. Just follow the manual's procedure for setting the hammer in the notch.
This is the NAA-BWCA, which wears Marble Arms adjustable sights instead of the fixed low-profile setup on the NAA-BWC. The adjustable rear lets you fine-tune elevation for whatever load you settle on, which is handy since 22 LR and 22 WMR can print to different spots. Everything else, including the 2 inch heavy vent barrel and both cylinders, is the same.
Noticeably better for most people. The oversized rubber grip fills the hand, and the heavier barrel and bull cylinder tame the jumpy feel the tiny-gripped minis are known for. Recoil is mild even with 22 WMR, making it a comfortable gun for new and experienced hands alike. It's still a close-range, deliberate single action, but it's a genuinely fun one.
