Most folks assume a .300 Winchester Magnum means a bolt gun, a three-round hunt, and a sore shoulder. NEMO Arms builds the exception. The OMEN Recon 3.0 is the shortest .300 Win Mag AR in their lineup, taking everything that made the full-size Watchman a legend and packing it into an 18-inch package that carries like a rifle you'd take up a mountain instead of one you'd leave in the safe. You trade a bit of muzzle velocity against the 24-inch guns, but NEMO still rates this one effective out past 1,200 yards, which covers just about any hunting or steel work most of us will ever do.
Running a belted magnum through a gas gun only works if the engineering keeps up, and this is where NEMO separates itself. The patented recoil reduction bolt carrier, tuned steel-faced buffer with a chrome silicon spring, and DC-1 titanium dual chamber brake all pull in the same direction, knocking felt recoil down into big .308 territory. Pair that with the Geissele SSA-E two-stage trigger and a Magpul PRS stock adjustable for comb height and length of pull, and follow-up shots come quicker than the caliber has any right to allow. The 4-position adjustable gas block means you can dial it in for suppressed or unsuppressed use without guesswork.
The barrel starts as a Bartlein blank in 416R stainless, gets cut with 5R rifling at a 1:8 twist, and is chambered in-house. Matched billet 7075-T6 receivers wear a Cobalt Cerakote finish, the takedown and pivot pins are titanium, the bolt is nickel boron coated, and a tool steel side charging handle rounds out the details. A 15-inch M-LOK handguard leaves plenty of room for a bipod and whatever else your setup calls for. Feeding from a 14-round NEMO polymer magazine, this is the rifle for elk camp, long-range days, and anyone who wants magnum reach without giving up the semi-auto platform.
