The NCStar VG147 is a folding stock tube adapter built to bridge the gap between old-school AK ergonomics and modern AR-style comfort. It mounts to AKM pattern stamped receivers with a square-cut flat rear section, giving you a mil-spec buffer tube that accepts a huge range of AR-style collapsible buttstocks. If you have ever wanted an adjustable length of pull on your Kalashnikov without buying a proprietary stock, this is the part that gets you there.
The real draw here is the folding action. The adapter folds to the left side of the receiver on a spring-loaded hinge, which trims serious length off the rifle for storage, transport, or tighter movement. Once you deploy it, you get a solid mounting point for whatever mil-spec stock you prefer. QD sling mounts are built into both sides of the adapter, so you can set up a single-point bungee or run your sling on whichever side suits you.
Installation is straightforward and doesn't require a gunsmith for most builds. It bolts onto the rear trunnion area of a compatible stamped receiver, and from there your AR-style tube and stock thread on like they would on any mil-spec setup. A handy detail folks appreciate is that the tube is hollow with a rubber end plug, so you can stash small parts, cleaning tools, or batteries inside.
Worth knowing before you order: this one is made for stamped AKM receivers with the square-cut flat rear. Milled receivers and slant-cut rears are a different animal, so check your rifle first. For the price of admission, the VG147 is a well-liked way to modernize a workhorse AK and shave down its footprint when you need to tuck it away.
The VG147 is designed for AKM pattern stamped receivers that have a square-cut flat rear receiver section. It is not made for milled receivers or slant-cut rears, so confirm your receiver style before ordering. If you have a common stamped AK build, it should be a match.
The VG147 provides the mil-spec tube itself, which accepts AR-style mil-spec collapsible buttstocks sold separately. You choose the stock you want and thread it on like you would on any mil-spec setup. That flexibility is a big part of why folks pick this adapter.
The adapter folds to the left side of the receiver using a spring-loaded hinge, which shortens the rifle for storage and transport. It has QD sling mounts built into both sides, so you can run a single-point bungee or set up your sling on whichever side you prefer.
For most compatible stamped AK builds, installation is a straightforward job you can handle at home with basic tools. It mounts to the rear trunnion area, then your AR-style tube and stock go on from there. Some builds may need minor fitting, so take your time and check fitment as you go.
