Anyone who's spent time behind a rifle in the prone knows how quickly rocks, gravel, and hard-packed dirt wear you down. The NCStar VISM Roll Up Shooting Mat gives you a big, comfortable surface to work from so you can focus on the shot instead of the ground digging into your elbows. It measures 69 inches long by 35 inches wide when laid out, which is plenty of room for a full-size rifle setup, your gear, and enough space to spread out and get steady.
The mat is built from tough PVC that shrugs off water and cleaning chemicals, so a little morning dew or a spilled bottle of solvent won't ruin your day. There's .30 inches of padding underneath to take the edge off hard surfaces, and slip-resistant panels sit right where your elbows and knees land to keep you from sliding around as you settle in. Reinforced cross stitching in the high-stress areas means it holds up to being dragged out to the line and packed away over and over.
When you're done, the mat rolls into a compact bundle roughly 19.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall, cinched down with two hook and loop straps. A built-in carry handle and an adjustable shoulder strap make hauling it from the truck to your spot a non-issue. That shoulder strap does double duty too, and can be used to anchor your bipod so the rifle doesn't creep forward under recoil.
It's also handy beyond the range. The same padding that helps you shoot works great as ground insulation under a sleeping bag when you're camping overnight, or you can roll it up and use it as a makeshift pillow. For hunters, range regulars, and anyone who shoots prone, it's a simple piece of kit that earns its spot in the gear pile.
The mat has .30 inches of padding built in, which is enough to take the pressure off your elbows and knees when shooting prone on hard or rocky ground. It's not a thick foam mattress, but it makes a real difference on gravel and packed dirt. The padding also doubles as light insulation under a sleeping bag when camping.
Rolled up, it packs down to roughly 19.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall and stays cinched with two hook and loop straps. It comes with a carry handle and an adjustable shoulder strap, so it's easy to sling over your shoulder from the truck to the firing line.
It's made from tough PVC that resists both water and cleaning chemicals, so morning dew, damp ground, or spilled solvent won't soak through or damage it. Reinforced cross stitching in the high-stress areas adds to its durability. It wipes down easily and holds up to repeated use.
Yes, the adjustable shoulder strap pulls double duty and can be positioned to anchor your bipod. That helps keep the rifle from walking forward under recoil, which is handy for staying on target during longer prone strings.
