North American Arms has been building tiny single-action revolvers in Provo, Utah since the early 1970s, and the Ranger II is the most refined take on the concept they have ever put out. Classic NAA minis make you pull the entire cylinder out of the frame to reload. The Ranger II fixes that with a break-top design borrowed from the old Schofield style top-break revolvers of the 1870s. Nudge the latch, the barrel and cylinder pivot forward, and a star ejector lifts all five empties at once. It is easily the fastest loading mini in the NAA lineup, and it makes range sessions with this little gun far less fiddly.
This is the combo version, which means you get a five-shot .22 Magnum cylinder plus an interchangeable .22 LR conversion cylinder in the box. Carry the Magnum cylinder when it counts, then swap to the LR cylinder for cheaper, softer-shooting practice. Swapping takes seconds and requires no tools. Up top sits a 1.63 inch stainless barrel with a full solid rib and a bead front sight, and the extra material in the rib adds just enough weight to settle down muzzle flip compared to earlier Rangers.
The frame and barrel are stainless steel, dressed with rosewood bird's head boot grips that give this gun genuine old-school character. Overall length runs about 5.16 inches and weight is in the 7.2 to 7.4 ounce range, so it disappears in a pocket, a belt pouch, or just about anywhere else. The single-action mechanism uses safety notches between chambers, letting you carry all five rounds with the hammer resting safely off the cartridge rims.
