The 6.5 PRC has earned its spot as one of the best long range hunting cartridges going, and the Mossberg Patriot Predator gives you a legitimate platform for it without draining your whole gear budget. The 24 inch fluted barrel wears a 1:8 twist that stabilizes the heavy, high BC bullets this cartridge was built around, so you get the flat trajectory and downrange energy that make the PRC such a favorite for elk, mule deer, and pronghorn across big country. The muzzle comes threaded 5/8-24 with an 11 degree match crown, so adding a brake or suppressor is as simple as spinning off the thread cap.
Mossberg finished the barreled action in Patriot Brown Cerakote, which shrugs off rain, snow, and the general abuse a hunting rifle picks up over a season. The synthetic stock wears TrueTimber Strata camo, a pattern that blends into just about any terrain from sage flats to hardwood ridges. At 44.25 inches overall, the Patriot Predator carries well for a 24 inch barreled rifle, and the fixed 13.75 inch length of pull fits most hunters comfortably right out of the box.
The LBA trigger adjusts from 2 to 7 pounds with no gunsmith required, so you can dial in a crisp, light pull for precise shots or keep it heavier for cold weather hunts with gloves. Speaking of gloves, the oversized bolt handle gives you plenty to grab when your hands are numb and a bull is standing broadside. The spiral fluted bolt runs smooth, the drop box magazine holds four rounds and swaps quickly, and the factory installed Picatinny rail means you can mount your scope the day you bring it home. For a do-it-all western hunting rig in a hard hitting cartridge, this one checks a lot of boxes.
Yes. The 24 inch barrel comes threaded 5/8-24 TPI from the factory, which is the standard thread pitch for most 6.5mm suppressors and brakes. It ships with a thread cap installed, and the 11 degree match crown helps protect accuracy at the muzzle.
No sights or optic are included, but the rifle ships with a Picatinny rail already mounted on the receiver. That means you can bolt on your rings and scope right away without hunting down separate bases. Given what the 6.5 PRC can do at distance, a quality variable power scope is the way to go.
It is. Mossberg's LBA trigger adjusts from 2 to 7 pounds and you can do it yourself without a trip to the gunsmith. Most hunters settle somewhere around 3 pounds for a crisp, predictable break in the field.
The 6.5 PRC shines on deer, antelope, and elk, especially at extended ranges where its high BC bullets hold velocity and energy better than most classic hunting rounds. The 1:8 twist barrel stabilizes heavy 140 to 156 grain bullets well. It is a great pick for western hunts where shots can stretch out past 400 yards.
