Description

The scout rifle idea is simple: one general-purpose bolt gun that's short, quick to shoulder, and capable of handling most jobs a rifle gets asked to do. Mossberg took that blueprint and added a trick most scout rifles can't pull off. The MVP's patented Dual-Push bolt design feeds reliably from both AR-10 (SR25/LR308 pattern) and M1A style magazines, so you're never hunting for proprietary mags. A 10-round Magpul PMAG comes in the box to get you started.

A True Scout Setup, Scoped From the Factory

This combo pairs the rifle with a Vortex Crossfire II Scout 2-7x32mm scope, an optic built specifically for the forward-mounted scout position. The extended eye relief lets you shoot with both eyes open and pick up targets fast, while the fully multi-coated lenses and V-Plex reticle keep the picture clean out to practical hunting distances. Vortex rings are included for mounting on the 11-inch forward Picatinny rail, and if you ever run the rifle without glass, the fiber optic front sight and adjustable ghost ring rear have you covered. Two short side rails give you room for a light or laser.

Built for the Truck, the Ranch, and the Range

The 16.25-inch medium bull barrel wears a matte blue finish and comes threaded with a removable A2-style flash suppressor, with a thread cap provided if you'd rather run it clean or add your own muzzle device. A 1:10 twist stabilizes the full range of common .308 bullet weights. The pillar-bedded black synthetic stock keeps the action seated consistently for repeatable accuracy, and the oversized bolt handle is easy to run with gloves on or from awkward field positions.

Why the MVP Scout Earns Its Keep

Mossberg's LBA trigger is user adjustable from roughly 3 to 7 pounds, so you can dial in a pull that suits your shooting. At 37.5 inches overall, this rifle is compact enough to live behind the truck seat and handy enough for thick timber, yet the 7.62 NATO chambering gives it real reach when a shot opens up. Sling included, zero it and go.

Frequently Asked Questions

What magazines does the Mossberg MVP Scout accept?

This is one of the MVP's best features. The patented Dual-Push bolt design feeds from both AR-10 pattern magazines (SR25/LR308 style, including Magpul PMAGs) and M1A/M14 magazines. One 10-round Magpul PMAG ships with the rifle, and spares are cheap and easy to find just about anywhere.

Is the Vortex scope mounted on the rifle out of the box?

The Crossfire II Scout 2-7×32 scope and Vortex rings come packaged with the rifle, but you'll typically need to mount and zero it yourself. Installation on the 11-inch forward Picatinny rail is straightforward, and the extended eye relief design is made specifically for that scout position. Plan on a range trip to get it dialed in before hunting season.

Can I run a suppressor on the MVP Scout's threaded barrel?

Yes, the 16.25-inch barrel is threaded and the A2-style flash suppressor is removable, so you can swap on a suppressor or a different muzzle device. Mossberg also includes a thread cap if you prefer to run the muzzle bare. The medium bull profile handles the extra weight of a can without getting whippy.

Is the MVP Scout accurate enough for deer hunting?

Absolutely. The pillar-bedded stock, medium bull barrel, and adjustable LBA trigger give this rifle solid practical accuracy, and .308 has more than enough punch for deer, hogs, and black bear at typical hunting ranges. The 2-7x magnification range on the Vortex scope is a sweet spot for woods and field hunting alike.
