The 3 inch chamber handles both 2.75 and 3 inch 12 gauge shells, from light birdshot to magnum buckshot and slugs. With 2.75 inch shells you get 8 in the tube plus one in the chamber for 9 total. Running 3 inch magnums will drop tube capacity slightly since the shells are longer.
The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so you can add a rail or optic mount without a trip to the gunsmith. Plenty of folks run a red dot on top of the ghost rings. That said, the ghost ring sights are solid on their own and faster than a bead for slugs and tight buckshot patterns.
