The M&P Alpha Electronic Earmuff is built for folks who spend real time behind a firearm and want hearing protection that does more than just muffle everything. It carries a 23 dB noise reduction rating and uses electronic circuitry to amplify low-level sounds while compressing anything above the danger threshold. In plain terms, that means you can still hear your buddies talking, catch range commands, and stay dialed into your surroundings, then the microphones cut the volume the moment a shot cracks off. It runs on 2 AAA batteries, which come included in the box, and an LED indicator light lets you know at a glance when the muffs are powered up so you don't drain the batteries by leaving them running.
The low-profile ear cups are a big part of the appeal here, especially if you shoot shotgun or run any kind of action shooting where you're mounting a stock to your cheek. Slimmer cups mean less interference and a cleaner cheek weld. The padded headband and adjustable cushioned ear cups are made to sit comfortably through long sessions, and the whole thing folds down compact so it tucks into a range bag or field pack without eating up space.
These pull double duty between the range and the field. Between strings of fire you can carry on a normal conversation without pulling the muffs off, and there's a 3.5mm audio input jack if you want to plug in a phone or music player when it's safe to do so. It's rated to the ANSI S3.19-1974 standard, and the design leans lightweight and impact resistant, so it holds up to getting tossed around in a gear bag.
Bottom line, the Alpha is a solid, no-nonsense electronic muff that covers the bases most range-goers and hunters actually care about: real hearing protection, natural sound so you stay aware, and a comfortable fit that won't wear you down after a full day.
Yes, that's the main point of the electronic circuitry. The microphones amplify low-level sounds like voices and range commands so you can stay aware without pulling the muffs off. The moment a shot breaks above the safe threshold, the electronics compress that loud noise to protect your ears.
The Alpha runs on 2 AAA batteries, and they come included in the box so you can use them right out of the package. An LED indicator light shows when the muffs are powered on, which helps you avoid draining the batteries by leaving them running between range trips.
They're a strong fit for it. The low-profile ear cups sit slimmer against your head, which helps you get a clean cheek weld when mounting a shotgun or rifle stock. That lower profile is a common reason folks pick these over bulkier muffs for shotgun and action shooting.
Yes, there's a 3.5mm audio input jack built in. You can plug in a phone, music player, or handheld radio to listen to audio when it's safe to do so. It's a handy feature for downtime at the range or on longer field days.
