The 7mm PRC has earned its reputation fast, delivering flat trajectories and hard-hitting energy at distances where a lot of hunting cartridges start running out of steam. The Mossberg Patriot Predator gives you a way into that cartridge without draining the hunting budget, and this version wears an OD Green synthetic stock with a matte blued barrel and action that looks right at home in the timber or on the prairie.
The 24 inch free-floating carbon steel barrel is fluted to shave weight and help shed heat, and it runs a fast 1:8 twist that stabilizes the long, heavy-for-caliber 7mm bullets this cartridge was built around. The muzzle comes threaded 5/8×24 with a knurled thread protector, so adding a suppressor or brake takes minutes instead of a trip to the gunsmith. Up top, a Picatinny rail comes factory installed on the receiver, meaning you can mount glass the same day you bring it home. The action is Mossberg's proven twin-lug push feed design with a spiral fluted bolt and an oversized bolt handle that gives you plenty to grab when cycling fast from field positions.
Mossberg's LBA trigger is user adjustable from 2 to 7 pounds, and most break clean right around the lighter end straight from the factory. At roughly 6.5 pounds bare, the rifle carries well on long walks, and the flush-fitting detachable box magazine holds three rounds with one more in the chamber. That is a practical setup for elk, mule deer, whitetail, and pretty much any big game on the continent.
This platform has built a following because it shoots better than its price tag suggests, with plenty of owners reporting tight groups at distance using Hornady factory loads. If you want a working rifle that is suppressor ready, optics ready, and chambered in one of the most capable long range hunting cartridges going, this one checks the boxes without any fuss.
Yes. The 24 inch barrel comes threaded 5/8×24 from the factory, which is the standard thread pattern for most .30 caliber and 7mm suppressors and muzzle brakes. A knurled thread protector is included and installed, so the crown stays protected when you are running the bare muzzle.
It does not come with iron sights or a scope, but it ships with a Picatinny rail already mounted on the receiver. That means any standard Picatinny rings will get your optic on board quickly. A quality 3-15x or 4-16x scope is a popular match for the reach of the 7mm PRC.
The 7mm PRC was designed by Hornady to take advantage of modern high BC bullets in a standard long action, and it edges out the 7mm Rem Mag downrange while delivering excellent consistency. The 1:8 twist on this Patriot Predator stabilizes those long, heavy bullets like the 175 grain ELD-X, which has become a go-to load for elk and deer hunters.
Yes, Mossberg's LBA trigger is user adjustable from about 2 to 7 pounds without any gunsmithing. Most rifles leave the factory breaking clean near the lighter end of that range, so many owners never touch it. If you prefer a heavier pull for cold weather hunting with gloves, dialing it up is a simple job.
