The .450 Bushmaster has built a serious following among deer and hog hunters who want one clean, hard hit inside 200 yards, and this Patriot Predator gives that cartridge a proper home. Mossberg built it on their twin-lug, push-feed machined steel action, feeding from a flush-fit 4 round polymer drop box magazine that keeps the bottom of the rifle snag free. The 20 inch carbon steel barrel is free floating and threaded 11/16×24 with an 11 degree match crown, and a protective thread cap comes installed from the factory. Spin on a brake to tame the recoil or run a suppressor and keep your ears happier in the deer stand.
The LBA trigger is one of the best things Mossberg ever put in a hunting rifle at this level. It's user adjustable from 2 to 7 pounds, so you can dial it down to a crisp break for precise shots or leave it heavier for cold weather hunting with gloves. Speaking of gloves, the oversized bolt handle and spiral fluted bolt make cycling quick and positive even when your hands are half frozen in November. Up top, a factory-mounted Picatinny rail takes the guesswork out of mounting a scope or red dot.
The Flat Dark Earth synthetic stock shrugs off rain, mud, and truck bed abuse without complaint, and the matte blued metalwork keeps glare down when you're settled in on a field edge. At a 4+1 capacity with big 250 to 300 grain bullets on tap, this is the kind of rifle you grab for thick timber whitetails, feral hogs, and black bear where shots come close and need to count. It's a straightforward, well thought out package from a company that has been building working guns for over a century, and it's ready for glass and a sling right out of the box.
This model is threaded 11/16×24, which is the standard pattern for .450 Bushmaster muzzle devices. That's different from the 5/8×24 threading found on most of the other Patriot Predator calibers, so make sure any brake or suppressor mount you buy matches. A protective thread cap comes on the rifle from the factory.
Yes. The LBA (Lightning Bolt Action) trigger is designed to be user adjustable from 2 to 7 pounds without a gunsmith. Most hunters settle somewhere around 3 pounds for a clean, predictable break in the field.
The .450 Bushmaster pushes heavy .45 caliber bullets that hit hard on whitetail deer, hogs, and black bear. It shines inside 200 yards, which covers the vast majority of shots in wooded country and farm fields. Past that distance the big bullet drops quickly, so it's best treated as a short to medium range cartridge.
This 20 inch model ships without iron sights or a scope, but it comes with a Picatinny rail already mounted on the receiver. That means you can bolt on a scope, red dot, or low power variable with standard Picatinny rings and be zeroed in one range trip.
