The 590 Shockwave took off because it crammed real 12 gauge capability into a package barely over 26 inches long. The one thing folks kept asking Mossberg for was a better way to aim it, since a firearm without a shoulder stock does not exactly lend itself to a traditional cheek weld and bead sight picture. This model answers that with a Crimson Trace LS-250 Lasersaddle mounted right at the factory. The red laser throws roughly a half-inch dot at 50 feet, with ambidextrous activation pads on both sides of the receiver and full windage and elevation adjustment so you can dial it to your preferred load.
Shooting from a compressed hold at waist or chest level takes practice with a standard Shockwave. Add the laser and the learning curve flattens out fast. You see the dot, you know where the pattern is headed, simple as that. The saddle sits low and snug against the receiver, so it does not snag or add bulk, and the whole setup still weighs in around six pounds.

The Crimson Trace LS-250 Lasersaddle has pressure pads on both sides of the receiver, so a right or left handed grip lands naturally on the activation point. Press the pad and the red laser comes on instantly. It is also adjustable for windage and elevation, so you can zero it to your preferred defensive load.
It takes some practice with full-power buckshot, no way around that, but the Raptor bird's-head grip is shaped to redirect recoil so it rolls in your hand rather than pounding straight back. The laser is the real equalizer here, since you can confirm your point of impact without a traditional sight picture. Reduced-recoil defensive loads make range sessions a lot more pleasant too.
It has a 3 inch chamber, so it will run 2.75 and 3 inch 12 gauge shells including buckshot, slugs, and birdshot. The cylinder bore works well with defensive buckshot at typical inside-the-home distances. Keep in mind capacity is 5+1 with 2.75 inch shells and drops slightly with 3 inch magnums.
